I tried searching the forums but I could not find a clear answer to this.. I understand that we can import our character from dragon age origins to dragon age 2 but can we import our character from dragon age awakening to dragon age 2?

Yes, you can, but not both. (assuming you used a new character for Awakenings) If you used the same character, however, simply import your last Awakenings save into DA2, and all of your decisions from both DA:O and DA:A will be imported.
