Huge frame rate drops in PC demo! Same in full version?

I have an Intel Quad 2.4 Ghz processor, 8 gigs of ram and a brand new AMD 6950 2gig graphics card (overclocked) running on Windows 7 and my frame goes from 60 FPS to about 20 when the combat starts. I know my system should be up to the task of running this thing at 50-60 FPS. I ran Mass Effect 2 on highest settings at a constant 60 FPS.

The same thing happens during cut scenes.

Is this just a result of it being the demo, or should I expect such bad performance in the full game?

Check the stickies. One of the devs has said that there are issues with dx11 in the demo that were fixed for the final game.

just a question: do you experience short loadings before cutscenes?

Yeah that seems to be abit of a bottleneck.

Yup, like a 1 second "hickup" load

I really hope that it's just early demo woes. I'm running the new i7 2600 with a gtx 295. No dx 11 so it should run the game fairly smoothly. I'm running every other game at 60 FPS+. I just really hope it's the demo.

Thanks, I just saw that. I will try it with dx9

Did you use DX11?

I've been playing with that fine for the most part, with the occasional freeze. If you have, don't do that for now. This'll likely get fixed before retail.

Yea, my processor is a few years old but I would have to upgrade motherboard and ram just to get a new processor. Will have to stick with this one for now.

I have no problems with any other games so far.

I think The Witcher 2 might be too much for it though.

You can always overclock it and save money.
Just get a aftermarket cooler and your good to go! :wizard:

Ahhhh.....much better with dx9. It's holding between 45-60 FPS.

Thanks for the help. I was worried there for a second. Glad to hear it's fixed in the full release.

Amazing!

Firstly, for those with the little hiccup loads during dialogue, you can fix it by disabling Vsync in-game. I use Vsync from nVidia's control panel and it works just fine without the hiccupping.

Anyways, @Tyrion, if you're only getting 45-60 fps in DX9 then your processor is SEVERELY bottlenecking your graphics card. I'm running a GTX 580 and an i7 950 and getting between 150 and 230 fps. Now I know a GTX 580 is more powerful than a 6950, but we should be talking 10-20 fps difference, not 100 fps. I recently upgraded from a Q6600 to my i7 and it's made a WORLD of difference. Or if that's out of your budget I recently helped my little brother upgrade to a Phenom II X4 system and it was only around $300 for the processor, mobo, and RAM...just some advice...

Thanks for the info. I will have to look into a new mobo and processor then. I would overclock the Q6600 but I have an Intel DP35DP mobo which doesn't even have an overclocking option and I don't feel like messing around with BIOS flashing etc.

I like the new Sandy Bridge processors, any recommendations on Processor-mobo combos? (after Intel fixes the chip recall)

In terms of raw processing power, nothing beats the i7 family but when it comes to gaming at high resolutions (pretty much anything at or above 1680x1050) most games are just as well served by a Phenom II X4 as an i7. I would refer you to the latest "Best Gaming CPUs for the Money" article on Tom's Hardware here: www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-cpu-core-i5-2500k-amd-e350,2843.html. As for motherboards, I tend to stick with Gigabyte and Asus as they are both solid brands that I've always had good experiences with, and I would keep an eye out for specials on memory at either Newegg.com or Microcenter.com. When my brother upgraded we got a 2x2GB Patriot Sector5 DDR3-1333 memory kit for just $30 after rebate, so upgrading your platform might not be as expensive as you might think.

Hardware has nothing to do with this problem. Please don't listen to these ignorant comments. It's a known issue that has been fixed for the final version. You'll find it's way less noticeable on the DX11 renderer, even though that version has its own problems (like completely destroying your fps).

Hardware has nothing to do with what problem? I don't understand which comments you're disagreeing with or WHAT is less noticeable on the DX11 renderer. There's a stickied post by Bioware explaining that DX11 is unstable in the demo but that it's been fixed for the final game, but I'm pretty sure that was already mentioned, so I'm not sure what you're getting at... If you're referring to my suggesting equipment upgrades, that's just for a better general gaming experience, not a fix for the framerate issues he's talking about.
