games getting dumber every year. This demo just proves it. Action game with few rpg elements, mass effect or final fantasy style. Its hard a game really, more like interactive movie, it has nothing to do with great old school rpgs, like baldur gate, wizardry or drakensang.
Good I didnt preorder.
Now you can yell at me all you fanboys, its your money so if you like it buy it and have fun. I won't.

Agree. But gaming companies are all about the bucks. Largest gaming market is males 15-25. They already sold a massive amount to the DA:O fans, now they are going to a action/combat centered game instead to reap the rest of the market. Only drawback on that is they will lose most of the preorder base from DA:O when DA 3 comes out. If the full game is anything like the demo I won't continue with the DA franchise. Like you, I loved DA:O and don't care for action focused games.

We COULD give BioWare the benefit of the doubt and assume reasonably that the demo focused on combat and dialogue wheel because those were the big changes. And we could recognize that it's about a fiftieth of the full game. And perhaps we might actually care about mechanics beyond one very specific mechanics model from games a decade old.

But nah. Continue with the doom and gloom. *hums Deekin's doom song*

Benefit of the doubt? The demo i saw had the worst combat i had ever seen. No top down view? Sorry but that just made it unplayable. Infact the game played mysteriously like a badly made version of Final Fantasy XII. The 'tactics' on allies, you controlling 1 character but being able to switch to another. Honestly i think the graphics were better on FFXII too and that was a PS2 game!

Couple with that the fact they just seem to have cheaped out on everything and gone the easy way, reusing stuff from both DA:O and ME/ME2 all over the place and that the whole feel of the game was 1 that was supposed to look flashy with no depth and you've got a truly awful game.

If this wasn't a sequel to DA:O things would be different. But its supposed to be and its not even worthy of being a shadow of DA:O.

Maybe you've just played some truly fantastic demos, but how "deep" was the last 45 minute demo you played?

The new camera is like a lot of things that have been revamped.  It takes getting used to.  About 15 minutes of getting used to, and once you do, it's fine.  Of course, you do have to be willing to adapt it, which is an entirely separate issue.

Worth playing, but nothing amazing. They seem to cut RPG systems off in sequels, the same happened to ME2.
The demo was extremely short, many things were disabled, combat seems to be expoitable (you can kite enemies endlessly), there are few spells, the difficulty went down to compliment the action system (spells are non-FF now).

Glad i didnt pre-order, noway this game is worth 60. I'll wait till they slash the price down and come out with an ultimate edition. That would give me some incentive in forgetting how bad this game is. Thanks EA for turning gold into poop like everything you touch.

I felt underwhelmed. I found the environment graphics, combat and dialogue disappointing.

First of all, the environment is just so barren and lifeless. True, its only a demo, and there very well could be some much more interesting environments in the full release. But the terrain still seems as clunky as Origins, if not more so. Can't walk over small rocks that are at about a 20 degree angle, the game still restricts you to a road, as it were. The combat feels a bit smoother in some places, but even clunkier in others. For example, try melee attacking an enemy that is running away and Hawke pretty much gets caught in an animation loop. And it just feels too fast. I understand where they wanted to go with this, but it just feels too stylized and too little realistic for my tastes. I liked the gritty reality of Origins.

I know I'm nitpicking with this, but as a rogue player I was incredibly disappointed to find that backstabbing is now an active skill. Where's the logic in that? If you can get to the back, why can't you backstab to your heart's content? Not only that, but when you backstab the pc disappears in a puff of smoke and reappears behind the enemy. Are rogues mages now? All I know is I am really hoping they update the toolset for this game so I can mod the things I don't like. Otherwise, especially taken in combination with the fact that this game is so much more focused than Origins, I don't see much replayability. Attributes are so shallow, too. Basically, a rogue invests in dexterity and cunning; a mage invests in magic and willpower; and a warrior invests in strength and constitution, perhaps dexterity if he really wants to mix things up. There is no incentive to break away from that mold. I hoped for the opposite, to see attributes become deeper.

The dialogue was rather disappointing. Seemed like a bunch of cliches, really. And pretty much 3 choices for any response - good, evil, or something in between. Like the rest of the game, just seems shallower than before. And I may be nitpicking again, but "they're yours, sister"? Has anyone here ever addressed their sister as 'sister'? It's not like you can change her name, surely it would have been more believable to just speak it.

I really wanted to like this game. I still do. This is just an honest opinion. I'm praying for a toolset update.

Honestly, I just feel rather depressed about it. 2/5.

Edit: The voice acting is also recycled. Male Hawke's voice is the same as the knight in the chantry at Lothering, and Hawke's mom is the same as Eleanor Cousland.

I know its still the demo and they will probably fix the issue it has with glitches etc.

But so far Im very disappointed.

I played Dragon Age: Origins over 450 hours and did all the quest possible and I really loved the classic RPG feeling to it.

I dont mind that they used a voiced character at all but they changed every single thing possible to the game and it doesnt even feel like Dragon Age game anymore.

For me this is just like a hack n' slash game like Devil May Cry.

Right now Ill give it 4/10

Thats how I feel.

I gave it a 3.5 because the fighting wore me out. I didn't unlock the demo item and now I'm dreading having to complete the demo again.

It was fun but too much fighting.

Console players might like it, but as a PC gamer. It's a stupid Action game with RPG elements.

Hmm, did you play the same dmeo I did, because all of teh pausing and tactics I could do in teh PC demo didn't quite say. "Action game with RPG elements"

That might be a little more accurate if we are talking the console version.

Oh and then 4/5, smarty pants....

Then again, we will see when the full game hits.  I am sure it will awesome...

"Tactics"? Do not exaggerate :D It is more activating your skills! 3/5

I am so hesitant to complain because than I will just appear to be another one of those 'golden days' RPG nerds who think Jesus had sex with Mary Magdelan and she gave birth to a video game and they named it Baldur's Gate.

I really wish I hadn't played this poorly put together Demo so that I wouldn't enter the actual game embittered.

Good way to describe Baldurs Gate ;D

Unfortunately this is what EA does.

"Hey guys we've got a great idea on how to squeeze as much money as possible from the loyal customer base you've established over the past 10+ years by producing the best games on the market!

First, we need to push DLC, so once you develop the game hold 40% of the content back, that way we can release it as DLC for 300% profit! Second, quality doesn't matter anymore, we're selling an already established brand, we are banking on the fact people will buy this game based on your name, so we can just fire whatever we want out the door and profit! Third, nobody likes RGPS, it is a niche market, anything we can do to cut back on the RPGness of your games is perfect, inventory? Get rid of it! Stats? Who needs 'em! Customizable NPC's? F that let's go for ICONIC NON CUSTOMIZABLE APPEARANCES! Finally, we need to crap out as many sequels as possible that may or may not have anything to do with the actual genealogy of the game!

This is all about maximizing profits, screw everything else!"

I sure hope Ray and Greg take the billion dollars EA paid them as soon as their non-competition clause expires and make a spiritual successor to Bioware because at the rate things are going, following awakening, ME2 and now this travesty, Bioware is going to become just another sequal producing EA hack, known more for quantity rather than quality.

Then again I could be wrong.

Pros:

Better graphics

Cons:

It's not really an RPG and it was made for consoles

1.5/5

It would have been better to just take Dragon Age, create another campaign and call it Dragon Age 2, than create this nonsense action game designed for 12 year olds with sugar rush.

everybody saying that it's hack and slash need to stop trolling because it definitely isn't hack and slash. or those retards need to understand what hack and slash is. even the witcher is closer to the concept hack and slash then DA2 is

4.5/5 seems to be a good solid game which i will enjoy

I rate it  1 out of 5.

Since the demo is basically just showcasing the new combat system, I base that rating on combat alone.
And combat simply sucks.

Yesyesyes, it's flashier, faster, more responsive, yadayada ... but they forgot to put in animations!
I mean, the DA:O dualwielder had the fastest combat animations ... and now even the two-handed weapon fighter is swinging his 10 pound 180cm blade faster than a rogue formerly stabbed a dagger! And a side effect of that speed increase is that there's no time for combat animations to be in.

End result: Combat moves look like ****. Like the good old 8-bit 2 phase animations with more colors and higher resolution.

Seems to me like they listened to the collective Beavis&Butthead crowd to make combat more ... 'cool' ... and forgot that Dragon Age ain't Bayonetta. :(

4/5.

Combat was much better, especially on fast classes like the dual wield rogue. classes actually felt different to play. Graphics were much better than DA:O, though I'm not totally sure how I feel about the new style yet although the armours and costumes I did see in the demo were leagues above those in the original game. Dialogue system was better; prefer the wheel and the main character being involved in the dialogue. Talent trees were much better, streamlined with most the useless stuff taken out of them. Voice acting was hit and miss - Isabella was good, as was Varric. Hawke depended on the choices - male Hawke seemed great on the sarcastic options but weak on the others, while femHawke seemed to nail the "paragon" side of things but was a little unbelievable elsewhere. Flemeth and Hayder were good as well, though I didn't really feel the rest of the voices, especially Mrs Hawke. Story was fine, was glad that there were no real spoilers.

The main things that let the demo down for me were:

Locked difficulty, locked inventory, locked talent trees, some of the voice acting was crappy and I didn't see a single death move (in 6 playthroughs).

Actually think this is way better than origins in every way and i have spent around 150+ hours in origins.

Was gonna start with a Sword and Board warrior with 1 mage(bethany or merrill) 1 rogue Sebastian and 1 warrior fenris. though i am unsure as i played as a two hander warrior and that was so awesome!.

Second go i will play as a Melee rogue or maybe archery. Anders/Isabela and aveline due to lack of party tanks. though i can see the next DLC giving another tank

Third go Mage not sure what spec this will probaly be in may sometime :D. merill or anders. Aveline damn give more tanks bioware unless we get to respec carver or fenris to be tank. and varric probaly

one thing i think it will be harder to get into making new chars due to the same char everytime and the same starting place but it should be okay.

Oh man, Bioware, what have you done to this people?

You fans are leaving you. I hope you gather enough new fans or your Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 3 will suffer. Seriously. Origins sold more than 3m copies worldwide. Think you can get more than that after the demo?

Anyway here's my rate for you, 85/100 for new pace combat. I love those ninja style. That Ogre kicks some ass, huh? Muahahaha. Better graphic compare to Origins. No comment about the story since it's obvious the demo is more for combat. But that dialogue wheel need improvement. Some description on Icons and word-to-word paraphrase might help.

Ok since I remain positive with my view ( despite my protest with the dialogue wheel ), I hope you provide us with toolset. Muahahaha.

We could obviously assume that. Well then.

Combat, I don't care about it much, what annoys me that you can throw fireballs at your own team members, also I got tired of it around half way through the demo.

Dialogue wheel, bad idea in mass effect even worse here since da:o didn't have one, why oh why break something that wasn't broken.

I don't really like voiced main character either, For that same reason, If you want voiced main character it costs and generally mean that you have to dumb down responses and dialogue. Like this demo shows. Dialogue isn't nearly as good as it was in da:o where you have lot more choices. For some it is reasonable price to pay for voiced character, not to me.

Lack of isometric camera, why isn't it there?
