I wondered if someone would post this thread. I've been thinking of my response since playing the demo this afternoon.

I heartily agree with the above post that called it "...a stupid Action game with RPG elements"

I felt like this was a console game ported to PC. I don't play consoles, in fact I pretty much hate them, mostly because I really suck at that (generic) kind of game. DA2 appears to be WAY more action than RPG, and that doesn't work for me.

I had several other issues which start with the demo crashing repeatedly and having to start over. In no particular order:

1. No autosave (no save at all for that matter).
2. No inventory / management.
3. The Combat Tutorial (I know how to play the game, assuming they didn't just change everything).
4. Never-Ending Bad Guys (this was the biggest "console" vibe I got from the demo).
5. Pathing (still).
6. The "streamlined" interface (again, "consoley"(?) and too "modern" for a dark fantasy game).
6a.The skill trees don't have to actually look like branches, do they? I liked the grid from DA:O
7. Flemeth got a very weird makeover. What is the deal with horns? Ogres, now Qunari and Flemeth?
8. The Flemeth cutscene animation was dreadfully crude, way below the quality Bioware is capable of.
9. The conversation "cutscene" style was (for me) annoying. I want to play, not listen for five minutes.
10.The conversation "icons" dumb down the decision/consequence aspect that made DA:O replayable.

And lastly,

A first level mage blowing Darkspawn in half with what has to be Arcane Bolt??

I am obviously less than impressed. I LOVE DA:O, I've played through it and Awakenings, RtO, Leilana's Song, and Darkspawn Chronicles with eight different characters.

Sorry, 1.5 of 5 (a bit generous but it did look amazing most of the time).

Oh, and I cancelled my preorder.

The graphics and art style are game breaking for me. I just couldn't continue playing it. Games from 1995 had graphics/character models better than DA2 (See Aveline)

Darkspawn looked like cute creatures trying to be scary.

The demo was always going to be a double-edged sword. Canceling mine as well. For me it's more the soap-opera feel everything seems tainted with. Gives me the creeps.

So here's the thing: The big thing, the ogre, threw a rock at my fem mage and she sidestepped it! That is something Origins couldn't manage in a millenia. The only bad thing I found was that you couldn't press the "Confirm" button when upgrading your spells. Became really annoying after a while, but aside from that I am häppi. 10/5.

I enjoyed it. It could use a little polish but I'd rate it an 8/10. Probably a 9 when there's more characters and humor going around.

Lol just read some of the posts. Was wondering if anyone realized that what we played in the demo was just our escape from Lothering and unlocking Haydens sword? We get to try out all three classes, and get a taste of what those classes are like in higher levels via the legendary scene.

The combat system is better in DA2, Hawke just jumps right in to combat, and the rogue backstab is also an improvement. Perhaps on the computer there isn't much difference in the combat...but on the Xbox 360 there is a markable difference. And I liked how alot of the buttons were the same, it saves me the time to relearn how to play.

Not sure what people were expecting out of a FREE demo you just download on to your computer or console. Of course they are not going to spoil much of the story line for us and cut us off mid story where we are sitting around for two weeks wondering what the hell is going to happen to Hawke next. Honestly I consider that kind of them.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who feels disappointed. I'm not going to out right and say that DA2 is made for the console (its probably not what they wanted) but you have to admit that they've overcompensated in that department, leaving PC gamers in the dust.

This doesnt even feel like DA2, they should have just renamed the game and kept the original DA franchise. Instead they name it DA2, with a complete overhaul of the combat mechanics (and no just because you can pause doesnt make it the same game). DA had more depth than that.

This game isnt bad, heck when the game comes out it might even be good but representing it as DA2 gave me DA expectations, which is completely different from a hack and slash game. Bioware, bad call on this one, hope you didnt screw up Mass Effect 3 too.

4/5 the combat has a better flow then in origins (even with using pause tactics), the graphics are nice and detailed and I like the sound. that said some things they should fix are better camera controls for pc and (this is a big one) fix lady hawkes f******* walk, it's like she's a puppet on strings

You are getting little snappy there. Thread asked about impressions for da2 based on demo. I gave them.
This demo is basically combat tech demo anyway you look at it. So either bioware put worst parts of the game in demo for some weird reason or the game really is like this.

There was no hints of sidequests or exploring here just killing enemies. In full game there hopefully is but you can't get that feeling based on demo, unless getting isabel is sidequest, which I really doubt.

And I don't care about auto attack it is fine, what however isn't fine is that you can throw fireballs at you own teammates, this is supposedly fixable in full game but again you can't know that based on this demo.

exactly its a combat demo its to show how the game mechanics are how combat plays and a hint at the overall story. If combat and cutscenes for you was the worst part's of DAO(as stated mechanics are the same) then what can i say maybe you should stick to table top games

really you expect side missions and an open world in a demo (which already weighs in at close to 2gig) and if you bothered to look around at any of the videos and walkthroughs bioware has posted you clearly state that side missions are in as for isabellas mission the LEAD DESIGNER DID A LIVE FEED SHOWING OFF THAT QUEST which he himself stated WAS OPTIONAL of course maybe he lied pm evil chris he was right the guy being all off screen and creepy

finally a valid crictism one which you probbly should have posted instead of just ragging for no reason and its something that was present in DAO (see cone of cold flame blast in the party camp) its because of the friendly fire mechanic i doubt is a glitch but put in on purpose but i suppose turning off F/F is away of fixing it (also moves away from being rpg and thinking tacticaly) you still sound like a troll

I'm not going to give it a number score because this is just the demo, but I can say I really enjoyed it. I hated playing as a mage in origins... I don't know why but something just irked me... but in this demo I really like them. I loved the animations for the rogue, backstab and throwing that potion. I won't say the combat is better than origins since, frankly, it feels very similar to me, but it's much more interesting to watch.

I'm not a huge fan of the class you pick dictating which of your siblings survive, but I'm sure I'll get over that. Having a voiced protagonist is also nice and I enjoy hearing the snark or aggression. The characters thus introduced seem like good ones.

Carver and Bethany will provide a nice family tie that can be seen over time, we see a bit of Varric and Isabella, but I'm most impressed by Aveline. When I saw her and read about her initially I had zero interest and thought I'd be bored with her, but the demo showed me how wrong I was in judging her before seeing her in action.

I understand why some people are disappointed with the direction of the game, but to me it still feels very similar to DAO. Most of my expectation were met or exceeded and I'm very excited for march 8th.

Well in my opinion demo should show general impressions of the game which includes talking to people and stuff if those things are in the game. I consider combat to be most boring aspect in the game (in DA:O too), so you should understand why I am not particularly impressed about a demo with nothing but fighting in a game which is supposed to have more stuff in it than killing enemies.

And you know  I actually have better things to do than look around for every video ever posted about DA2.

It's EXACTLY like DA:O but with better combat. I REALLY don't see why people are complaining

If you were playing DA:O for the combat in the first place, there's something wrong with you lol

Not buying the game. I wasn't even that negative during the development, and i did have it on preorder, but seriously, it's turned from a good strategy rpg to a bad action rpg. No thanks.

I'm not sure what to give it honestly. It's funny...the things I thought I would like I'm not to sure about and the things I thought I wouldn't like...well I'm kinda liking. First things first. To be honest I wasn't sure what to think about the changes to combat when they were announced. I'm not a fan of the flashyness, but I have to admit on the console the combat does "feel" better. However, I did really enjoy origins combat once I got used to it even though at times it could feel slow. The big change to combat seems to be that you can no longer cue up...console wise atleast....but aside from that it is very similar just faster. Now onto the talking PC and the wheel. I am a huge mass effect fan...I have followed bioware since baulders gate, but for me mass effect has a special place in my heart. I thought the talking PC and the wheel were going to be great additions, but to be honest they just feel out of place...Origins was designed with the sensibilities of an old fashion rpg and the wheel just doesn't fit. All that said I am still excited for the game and I think it is a shame that some people have already made up their mind about the game.

PS. I heard something about combo attacks, like combination with other party memebers or something like that....I may be totally wrong but if anyone has any idea what I am talking about do you know how to do them?

The only reason I am buying is because I like fem-hawkes voice. It seems like they have given it the mass effect 2 treatment. Getting rid of good content from the previous title and making the little content that they left behind look slightly better. Oh well. I could be wrong, but I doubt that I am. I just feel like the game is going to bring a whole lot of disappointment.

I even left the computer to let in the dog, and to get my Son something, and combat was over when i returned. I didnt get far enough to get to the second ogre,  since the game just screamed for me to shut it off.
