No I've got a Sony Vaio laptop - Origins runs fine on it too even though it is also below min spec for DAO. It seems to be a Nvidia 7x00 thing? Please let them fix this in a first day patch if it's not already fixed :( it's such a glaringly obvious glitch ...

I know. I wish we could just get a a response already at least telling us they know it's an issue or they are working on it. Anythings better than nothing.

NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS

Same card, same problem. Also, I'm *not* using the latest drivers because they aren't compatible with Mass Effect 2, but from what I've read here updating them does not solve the problem.

Maybe someone should go try the official support as apparently this forum is for players helping players and that's it really ... I would but I'm afraid all they'll do is say - sorry your laptop is under min spec.

Basically, someone with a 7900GS or 7900GT needs to poke support, i guess...

I had a chat with a guy at EA. I don't know how much he knew, but he assured me that they know of this bug and are working on it. He also stated that If i get this bug still after buying it that I would get a full refund. Full chat below.

Ben: Hi, my name is Ben. How may I help you?

2262997450: Hi. I was wondering. In the Dragon Age 2 Demo, i had a really odd bug. Everyone had black faces.

2262997450: My specs are

2262997450: Intel Core2 CPU 630 @ 1.86GHz

2 gigs of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS

Vista

DX9

2262997450: picture here

2262997450: http://img829.images...e2blackface.png

2262997450: I made a thread on the BioWare forums and everyone with a geforce 7xxx series has the same problem.

2262997450: My question is will this bug be in the final game. Because if it is I am not going to be buying it.

Ben: Please give me a moment while I check this for you.

2262997450: Thank you.

Ben: Well , I have looked in to your issue and found that this is true that you see black face

Ben: And our engineers are working on it

Ben: So I would suggest you to wait for sometime and buy the game later

2262997450: Oh ok. So, as the game has gone gold already, they cannot fix it in time or what?

2262997450: Perhaps a fix later in a patch.

2262997450: Cuz this is bumming me out man.

2262997450: I've had a thread on the official forums for days now without a mod reply.

Ben: I would like to inform you that there is no such ETA but I would request you to please keep an eye to the forums for the latest updates regarding it.

2262997450: I figured they were just blowing me off as my graphics card is the minimum requirement.

2262997450: As they have addressed most bugs that involve newer cards, and people with older cards they have seemed to ignore.

Ben: This is the minimum system requirement information for the game

Ben: Windows Vista / 7

Processor: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1.8 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2, or equivalent or greater

RAM: 1.5 GB

Video Cards: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB, NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256 MB, or greater

Hard Drive space: 7 GB

2262997450: I know. My card makes the minimum requirement on the nose. So they should fix it as it was advertised as minimum.

Ben: Well , see I want to be honest this game is tested on these requirements

Ben: But most of the players are facing this issue

2262997450: Well my entire computer is just a slip better than minimum, but everyone with a geforce 7xxx series is having thiis issue, so it isnt just me.

2262997450: Yes they are.

Ben: What I can suggest you is that buy this game see if it works and most probably it will work but if doesn't work then I will provide you the full refund for the game

2262997450: So what I am saying, they should feel obligated to fix it as it was advertised to work on systems with that card.

2262997450: And you can guarantee the refund?

Ben: Yes , for sure

Ben: You can have this transcript and you will also get a mail from us of this chat transcript

Ben: You can just show it to us and we will provide you the refund in the future if you see any issue

2262997450: Ok that is good. But can you honestly tell me they are working on this issue?

Ben: yes , they are

2262997450: Ok great. If you say so I'll believe you.

Ben: Thank you for understanding

Ben: Is there anything else I can do for you at this moment ?

2262997450: Nope just the black face bug. As long as I know it is being worked on I am content.

Ben: okay

Ben: Thank you for your participation in the EA Games Chat Support.

Bye and take care!

2262997450: Cya

You have disconnected.

Hope this will also fix it on steam -.- I'm having the exact same problem and if it doesn't get fixed I'm out 60$ (Steam doesnt like giving refunds) using the credit card without telling the lady was probably a bad idea <.<

Steam will give you refunds, but *only* if you've preordered, and its before the release date.

Either way I was going to keep my SE pre-order but knowing they're working on it is some comfort at least :) hopefully it will be fixed in a VERY early patch though!

EDIT: oh and thanks to theenigma77 for keeping this thread alive and getting us all an answer :)

No problem at all! :) Thanks to all of you for the support. Still think it's odd we never got a mod response however...

Guys, is it such a big deal to replace your 5 year old video card with a new one? What kind of visual experience do you expect with that dinosaur anyway?

Do you honestly think that money you paid 5 years ago for a video card gives you the right to expect developers to waste time fixing the issues with 6 generations old piece of hardware instead of focusing on getting the maximum from the latest and greatest hardware available?

I really have trouble understanding that.

They state that the GeForce 7900 is able to run the game properly. It is the minimum requirement, so it should work without issues.
If they didn't want to support it, they shouldn't have it as the minimum requirement. They made the choice to support it, and they supposedly tested it on minimum spec machines.
I expect minimum requirements to be what you need to run the game on lowest with an acceptable framerate without graphical glitches. Clearly that isn't the case here.

I'd also like to point out that the GeForce 7900 is more powerful than many of the newer cards. Crap like Radeon 4200s come to mind (they're supported, incidentally)
Sometimes newer video cards do provide lower performance than older ones. Newer cards emphasize shaders, older cards were more about memory bandwidth. If you lower settings that use lots of shaders, then you can get good performance and decent visuals on these so-called "dinosaurs". I run new games on decent settings on mine without lag, its not as bad as you make it sound.

Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest. I know I'd rather use money to buy more games, instead of upgrading my system to be able to max out all the games that i then wouldn't be able to afford. DA2 costs enough as is, i don't think anyone wants to buy a new graphics card as well, especially when their existing one is supposedly supported and able to run the game ;)

Enigma really hit the nail on the head when he said "So what I am saying, they should feel obligated to fix it as it was advertised to work on systems with that card.".

Got this bug on the demo as well, and will not be ordering DA II until I know for sure it is fixed.

Levicki-is it really so hard to understand that not everyone in this economy can afford replacing a video card when the card they have is supposed to be supported by the game developers?

Cuz if it is, I kinda wonder what you're smokin'...

With Geforce 7 cards you shouldn't keep your drivers up to date. Install and old driver and see if that fixes anything.

The newer drivers don't actually install on Geforce 7s anyway, i believe.

Yep, they sure do. I have the 266.something or other driver.

I have the same issue running a 7900GS, actually I run two of them in SLI.
I have 5 gigs DDR800
AMD 7950 quad core proccesor.
Dual booting  Win7 and XP, haven't tried it on XP though.

These cards do not support DX11 nor Physics but they are damned good cards and I haven't needed to upgrade for anything yet, though that day is coming I'm sure.
I just can't justify plunking down 4 or 5 hundred dollars to play one game, when I can't play ANY new game then I'll build a new system.

If the "black face" is the only problem with the game, as it is with the demo, then I'm not going to care too much.
If I cant use the CC because of it then that is a horse of a different color..
