Also take a look at these arms: http://cdn.gamerant....died-Hawke.jpg. Those look muscular but not overdone. He's simply toned. Aveline has large muscles because she's wielding a heavy shield and sword all the time. Even Isabella is reasonably well muscled.

1.@Flemeth she looks like she's 70 years old. There's no way she'd have a body like that at her age.

2.EDIT: sice you posted in between these two, swinging a 20 pound weight (and stopping it) the way Hawke does in the demo makes the weight so much harder to swing. Add to that the fact that he's wearing heavy armor and you've got some serious working out happenign.

1.She takes the body of her Daughters.

2.It's hard to do but will not actually build any Muscle. You need to build actualy resistance to tear the Muscle for it to be rebuilt.  where as Hawke swings it like it weighs about as  much as a Feather.

1. This is right after the Grey Warden leaves Lothering, so she still has the same body she when you met her in the original - an old lady's

2. Hawke swings it around like a feather because he's had to train his muscles to be able to get to that point. You can't just pick up a 20 pound (I have no idea how much a sword like that would weigh) sword and start whipping it around - Hawke would have trained for years to get the muscles he has, which are toned and not rediculously oversized.

1.No she has the same Female body model every female in Origins has

I saw you taking offense to my reference to normal boob a few pages back, that is why I addressed normalcy. But yes, her boobs are ABSURD. my definition of absurd is when objects can be balanced on it. And boobs DO NOT stick out of your clothes if you are wearing properly fitting clothes.

My problem is not with people that have big boobs. My problem is he implication that the only place women have in a video game is as ass shaking boob vehicles. DAO, for the most part, was very respectful of women. All this game has done is turn them into sex objects.

And you may be demeaning my ability to spell, but I will not take offense to it. It is one of my flaws, and I have managed to live a fruitful and productive life despite that.

Ah, hadn't seen that picture yet. Then yeah, you may be right. On the other hand that would be somewhat realistic for a sword wielding soldier (although I'd expect someone a little stockier - he could maybe weigh a bit more).

@Flemeth, I know she does but she still looks like an old woman. Because the demo takes place between the two times you see her (first meeting and battle), you know that she is still in the form of an OLD WOMAN. She ages naturally, she just switches bodies once one gets too old.

Maybe for a Sword wielding soldier (Although i still say that's too big but it's fantasy so w/e) but a mage or rogue to have that seems a bit off. Hawke still looks Toned in Armor though.,

@flemmeth I really don't have an explanation for that, I imagine they changed her outfit to make her look more bad ass when she swoops in. Rather than her role in DAO to be mysterious and wise.

Yes but the same is true of FemHawke. For a mage or rogue her body might make sense but she's got too many curves to be a warrior.

Flemeth looks like that now because hyper-sexualized games sell. It's the unfortunate truth, and that's that DA2 represents women more as sex symbols than the first one. Neither of them were perfect, but DA2 has exaggerated a lot of things that were in DA:O.

Sex object=/=Attractive

Just because Flemeth is wearing a more revealing outfit dosen't make her anymore Sexualized than she was in Origins. She's still the same wise old mysterious lady with wrinkles but this time in a Leotard(which i disagree are always sexy)

It's not like she's flirting with hawke or making out with momma hawke.  The Qunarai all run around shirtless now but that dosen't mean Bioware wants to attract the twilight crowd.

Yes it does. She went from seeming like a wise, powerful old sorcerer to just plain silly. I personally don't find her attractive either, but she's still a sex object.

Since he's leaving and I'm too stupid to let a beaten cow lie. . .

1. People can have large boobs. The problem is that they were introduced for the purpose of making the game more appealing to adolescent boys (a large portion of their audience). You think it's just a coincidence that all games have busty women?

2. She's wearing extremely revealing clothing is what he means. This again goes back to the fact that it's there to sell more copies, not because it adds to the atmosphere.

3. For all we know it'll be a ME2 style clothing change were it just changes a color scheme. Judging from the attitude towards women that's present in DA2 we can assume the new outfits will be just as revealing (but who knows?)

4. You have been the most unreasonable of anyone here - there's no problem with arguing logically but you're sounding more and more like a troll.

>>She went from seeming like a wise, powerful old sorcerer to just plain silly.<<

Really? She seemed like much the same character, but presenting herself as stronger and more capable to Hawke than she did to the Warden. (or, rather, in different ways ... she wanted to establish her powerful image quickly and unquestioningly with Hawke) The voice and dialogue seem no inferior to the character's presentation in the previous game, so what makes her silly now? That she is physically attractive? Seems closed minded to assume the two cannot coexist.

>>I'm really just making this up as I go<<

About time somebody on the internet admitted to that.

3.What attitude towards women? One women not wearing pants does not make all women in the game sex hounds. Two writers for the game are women. They are hardly being tread unfairly if at all.
4.I have not been unreasonable, I have been angry that someone made that link between big boobs and absudirtity. Which can be offensive to some people.

Oh, I'll freely admit it :P. That doesn't change the fact that I'm extremely opinionated.

The character Flemeth is no different, however the outfit makes it hard to take her seriously. Revealing clothing doesn't make her seem more powerful - it just reeks of oversexualization (is that even a word?). I think the dragon entrance would have been plenty for establishing herself as a powerful figure (no pun intended XD). Wise and mysterious just generally don't work with revealing clothing.

There is such a thing as classy and attractive, but Flemeth doesn't fall under that category. The outfit doesn't match who she is introduced as in the first game (at least at her old age stage of her cycle of infinite life)

And now that you've responded to the other points:

1. No, not all games do. But most of the popular over the top RPGs DO - which is exactly what DA2 is trying to be. And why would they make something that unrealistic other than for sex appeal?

2. The big boobs ARE absurd. Sure, there are people who look like that. But they are even close to the majority of people. The stereotype also is true, unfortuantely (based on my experience with people I know)

3. It's not just one women, it's most of them. Even Merril's outfit is designed to be sexy. We've just expecting practically topless women and don't notice when one wears something that is already revealing.

4. There's really no way to intellectually argue this so I'm going to stop now

It's a pet peeve, but as I've said before in these topics being comfortable with your sexuality /=/ letting it hang out for the world to see (and partake of).

Were she a real person, I'd agree with you personally, but say it's up to her.

But since she's a character written by a team, I agree with what you're saying. I really just don't like people going on about realism and boob size and all this. I wish the writers could write me a female character that can be sexual and not be in skin-tight space suits or have it all hanging out. I'm mainly just happy that Izzy doesn't seem to only revolve around the fact that she's open sexually. I miss cool female leads like Maya from Septerra Core.

My favorite female character is Aveline just because I like that she's actually both a warrior and a wife. Like, being a wife doesn't somehow make her some magic casting, physically-frail character. I am concerned that she's going to be herded into some kind of big sister role, though.

You know, all this talk about Isabela's breasts and the thing I remember most about her in the demo was her kicking ass in her introduction scene.

I DID appreciate the slinky, slithery, walk Flemeth used after transforming from to human form, but that isn't why I enjoyed her character - the character was interesting because of the way it was portrayed through dialogue. (though that hair is awesome) I -was- fascinated by her new appearance, because it was so much more dragon like this time around (which made me wonder, I think she has suggested more than once now that she might be a dragon .. but I might be misremembering) ... and I thought looked cool overall.

But none of the characters in the game have particularly interested me - a middle aged gamer, mind you - because of the way they look alone (except for maybe Merrill's wide eyed, cute thing) and I had in fact intended to try skipping Isabela because I was worried her characterization would only be breast deep ... but seeing her in action, I'm given to think I might like her again after all.

But are they using sexual imagery to sell the game? Hell yes! Sex sells; it sells cars, computers, clothes, television .... it sells everything. And when you are trying to broaden your market, it cannot hurt to fall back on things that have worked before. (so long as the characters are interesting, I don't really care what they look like ... though, honestly, if you're going to romance someone, you want them to be at least somewhat attractive)

You make a lot of good points. I loved Flemeth's hair, and I think that if she looks awesome as it is but could look so much more awesome with some good wizard robes. None of the characters have interested me (a teenage boy, mind you!) based on appearance or character, so I may just skip romance htis time around. I also believe you should make the romance options attractive, but not over the top. Leliana was a perfect example of this in DA:O without being over the top like Isabella is.

On the other hand the Isabella beating up the guys is starting to feel way to much like the stereotypical JRPG trailer - I don't mind strong women, but they are designed be sexy even when it doesn't appear that way (or at least that's my hunch, I obviously don't konw for sure).

Personally, I'm glad they didn't put her in mage robes ... but I've never been particularly fond of the robes in the game, so I admit that is a personal bias. And I think it a bit early to make plans to skip romances this time through, as we just don't know the characters well enough yet.

Looking at Varric, I just did not understand what people saw in him, but after the demo I really warmed up to the character and now fully intend to have him as a frequent member of my initial rogue-centric party.

All we can do at this point is theorize and ponder "what ifs" which is fine as a thought experiment, or to share our opinions, but I wouldn't rule anything out until I see the actual - fully functioning - game in action.

In my opinion Isabella was really the only one who truly looked a little ridiculous bordering Anime girl territory but her character made me like her. She was kind of ****ty but so was Leliana and Zevran. The difference is that she is more of a moral character compared to them. Instead of assassinating she duels and steal to make a living. She will likely not have sex with you then kill you but instead use that to get information. Unlike DA rogues she is more of a moral character who has limits and likely couldn't see her self as Assasins like Zevran and Leliana.

Bethany actually has smaller breasts compared to her mother, Isabella and possibly Flemeth. The only Bethany that had OMG large boobs was the Legendary version of Bethany. The normal version was actually toned down and I was okay with that. Still sucks that they made Hawkes sister so attractive though.

Now Flemeth feels like more of a badass honestly. I mean to me she isn't sexualized because she looks like a 70 year old woman. Her clothing actually brings out the Wilds witch mixed with Ancient abomination persona she seems to present. Basically to Hawke's family she wanted to present herself as a being of power and mystery. I think they succeeded with that.
