So, I started downloading the demo several hours ago. When it had about 10 minutes left, I closed the lap top and went to take a bath, confident that the demo would be ready by the time I was done. I get back to the computer, open it up, and see that it stopped. Oh bummer I think, and go to resume it. What happens next? IT RESTARTS DOWNLOADING. RESTARTS, NOT RESUMES, RE (Insert swear word of your choice here) STARTS! Obviously, I find this . . . immensely upsetting. So please, someone explain why it cannot simply resume from where it left of? Other downloads do. Thank you.
-A Very Sad Person.
Reposted from General, since this seems like the more appropriate venue. Also, is there anyway to recover my download and continue from where I left of?
Could someone please explain . . .

I don't know what kind of connection you have, but I have a ~10-15 Mbps connection and I downloaded using Free Download Manager and it averaged around 1.7 MBps and finished pretty quickly...so maybe just try using a download manager?

Sometimes you can resume downloads depending on where you are downloading it from and your browser, but probably not if it already restarted. It's not ever a good idea the shut your notebook when downloading.

Most notebooks are set to automatically go into a sleep mode when you shut their lid. Unless you've turned that off, it's no surprise that it stopped downloading. A comp can't do anything when it's not on.
I feel your pain, though. I forgot to change my own comp's power settings when I left it to download the demo today, and came back to a half-finished download that had been aborted by its automatic sleep mode. Felt bad for wasting Bioware's bandwidth on such a heavy download day.
Anyhow, as crusadeonacid says, resuming a download is something only certain browsers/downloaders support, and even then it won't always work.

Unless you've modified the power options, closing your laptop puts your laptop into sleep mode, that's why the download stopped. As for why it restarted rather than resumed, it's not BioWare that's responsible. I was able to pause and restart my download of it just fine. Are you sure that the download was paused, or was it canceled? What browser did you use to download it? Firefox clearly says canceled or pause in the Download box. If it was canceled, all it can do is re-download it again.

Thanks for all the advice, I downloaded it again overnight, of course then I found out that it wasn't a Mac version I was downloading. Soooo, yah. Sorry for wasting your time. Thanks again for all suggestions/answers though! I'm always impressed by the sorts of people who post in the tech support forums!
