is DA2 the new crysis or something?

settings are maxed out. the graphics are fine by todays standards but nowhere near good enough to be giving my machine an average fps of about 14...is the demo just really unstable?

@aphelion: When you say all the settings maxed out do you mean DX11 as well? Because if so, you must be the exception...I have an i7 950 @ 3.06 GHz and a GTX 580 Superclocked and I only get around 28-30 fps with DX11 and max settings...DX9 and max settings (which is really just medium, 8xAA, and 0xAF, with ambient occlusion) gets me ~180 fps...

3.8GHz Phenom II X4 / 9600GT, and it runs fine at 1680 w/AA on. Seems to tread lighter on video cards than DAO.

@titus: Try running the game in DX9. You'll find several topics of people with the same problem. DX11 in the demo in unstable. It's been fixed for the full game but I had the same issue with crappy performance with DX11 enabled.

Weird, now after reading it I went to check and although I had DX11 enabled and max settings at config utility in game it was only DX11 and medium settings with 0xAF. I set everything as high as it could go (wouldn't let me choose detail as highest, is it a limitation of my card or just the demo?) I have about 28-30fps as well...which is still too high if I compare it with your results. Maybe this game is very optimized for ATI cards considering thye worked closely with Bioware on the DX11 portion of it?
So basically I have:
DX9 Max: 143 avg
Dx11 Max (high details settings, couldn't choose highest): 29 avg

Okay, no actually, that's much closer to what I would expect. And I couldn't choose the highest settings either. From what I've heard from the developers, the highest settings enable more DX11 options that aren't available in the demo, but will be availablein the full game. It's a shame but I guess we'll just have to wait until the full game comes out to experience the full visuals and gauge their performance.

I am at min specs and the game runs fabulously.
same here, and I am actually using medium settings with high resolution!
DA2 seems to be far better optimized than its predecessor, which makes me very happy.

Although unsupported I thought I would give it a go after reading this thread and I didn't find any problems with the DX11 rendering (max settings). I have a dual 5850 in crossfire. No slowdowns or crashing. I wasn't impressed by its quality, though. Maybe the final game offers more eye candy.
When you say you didn't find any problems does that mean you didn't see ANY artifacts? And I'm curious what framerates you were seeing. For me, the DX11 results seem to be inconsistent...the first time I booted up the game I was getting like 14 fps just in the rendered parts of the opening cutscenes, but after playing through in DX9 and starting again with DX11, I was getting around 30 fps. Honestly though, I know your two 5850's should be more powerful than my one GTX 580, but I'm surprised crossfire hasn't caused a whole other subset of issues in the demo, give everything else. Also, the first time I tried DX11 I was getting black artifacts in the terrain textures, but again , I didn't notice them when I tested DX11 again after playing through...I'm thinking I might try a full playthrough in DX11 just to take note of the issues.
As for the quality, there's a whole other level of graphics detail that's blocked off for the demo that will be available in the full game, so I'm anticipating further improvement. That being said, although it already looks much better than DA:O, I still wouldn't expect to see Crysis...
EDIT: Actually, I take back what I said about two 5850's being more powerful...found Guru3D's 6950 CrossFire Review here: www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-6950-crossfirex-review and they include the GTX 580 and 5850 CF in the charts as well... ANYWAYS, they're very close with the 580 winning a few tying a few and losing a few, so are FPS should at least be within 5 or so fps of each other unless Radeon's or Crossfire setups are somehow immune to the DX11 instability.

The PC demo has known performance and stability issues with DirectX 11. These have been fixed in the final game.
We recommend that all users disable DirectX 11 while playing the demo, including those with high-end machines.
