Nicely organised OP!

I have been wondering about the role of the batarians for awhile now, there was also this CDN entry which hinted at joint-operations between the Alliance and the Hierarchy in preparation to fight agains the batarians (Khar'shan is their homeworld) and we've seen enough examples of batarian terrorism in the game and in the novels. Some sort of conflict with them has been brewing for awhile though I am not sure how/if it will relate to the Reapers.

I further believe that the release date of this new DLC pack will be on April 11 2011 which would coincide with the Commander Shepard's actual birthday of April 11th, 2154.

Thanks Hawk for the well organised post.
I really like the idea to release a DLC at Sheps birthday. Hope they do that.

well in my humble opinion we'll have option to [paragon] save Shepard and pro-Aliance thing or [renegade] pro-cerberus or Shepard could die -just some loose conclusions here

My bet is that we have to choose between [paragon] helping batarians or [renegade] helping humans. I feel comfortable making this bet because it involves no money, and very little pride.

Interesting. Thanks for compiling this, OP. Appreciated.

I think I might have exploded with excitement had placeholder data for Ashley and Kaidan's hypothetical squadmate programming been unearthed. XD

Batarians are even more primitive when compared to human standards... Their most powerful nations have a caste system that includes slavery and they support underhanded terrorism and the kidnapping of less defended colonies...
If anything I hope the Reapers come along during the mission and puts a big dent into their civilization.

edit: oh and thanks OP.

theory about the ultimate sacrifice

am i the only one that thinks the sacrifice is the sol systems mass relay because this doctor is studying the relays and no reinforcements have come to earth in the me3 teaser trailer since the reaper claim to have built the relays they could use one of their own to build a new sol mass relay to get to eart and this all seems to work with what the guy says in the teaser trailer

The Batarians are tailored for the role of bad guys in this game. My guess is that they've been misled into believing that the Reapers will let them live if they cooperate.

Yes. There's a list of dialogue options in the AAP2 content that indicates Shep will have a choice -- going to a shipwrecked alliance craft or going to a Batarian research vessel whose crew is "sick."

"Sick?" Research vessel? Uh-oh.

True. That thread is already rather long and filled with a few known facts, a lot of random speculation and many posts along the lines of "OMG! HAPPY DANCE!"  Happy dances and random speculation are all well and good, but when you're trying to find out the known facts and the speculations that have some kind of evidence to back them up, they can be distracting. If I read the first post in this thread correctly, this thread exists for the sake of known facts and speculations that have some kind of evidence to back them up.

So, to put it all in a nutshell -

What we know based on the PS3 trophies:
1. The upcoming DLC will be called Arrival. Exactly who or what is arriving remains unclear. Initially, many forumites assumed that it meant the Reapers were going to show up, but nobody knows for sure (except BioWare, and they're not talking).
2. The plot of the DLC will probably center around Dr. Kenson and a mysterious artifact known only as Object Rho. Some forumites believe that Object Rho could be the Reaper artifact from ME: Evolution, others believe it could have something to do with the Leviathan of Dis. As of this moment, there is no solid evidence as to the nature of Object Rho.
3. The "Covert Action" trophy implies that stealth will be involved at some point during the DLC. The jury is still out on whether that means Shepard & Co will sneak into somebody's base or whether the Normandy SR2 will simply turn on its stealth systems.

What we know based on the PC files:
Not much. Nobody said if these files were part of the Arrival DLC or simply test files. However, if these do point to Arrival, there will be Batarians.

What we don't know a lot about:
The meaning of the PS3 trophy called "The Ultimate Sacrifice." There has been much speculation about what this sacrifice could involve, but no solid information. However, it sounds epic.

What I personally wouldn't mind seeing in Arrival:
"Covert Action" involving sneaking into somebody's base. My Infiltrator would have a field day.
The VS. No word on whether or not that's going to happen, but again, my Infiltrator would have a field day.

Great thread, and well thought out post OP. I have to say that you have some very good points and it's hard to argue with any.

I might add that although Dis is not in that system, I believe at least mention of Leviathan will be in the DLC, hell they could even show it as it was reported that the Batarians moved it and claim it doesn't even exist. Leviathan could help with Dr. Kenson's theory on the actual age of some of the Mass Relays.

I've got to agree with some of the previous posters. Think about it: If the Batarians rose up as a threat and waged war against humanity and the Turians, the Council races would be distracted by the time the Reapers attacked.

My bet is that the leadership caste of the Batarian military has come under the sway of the Leviathan of Dis (the 'dead' Reaper the Batarians found in 2160). It's my guess that they repaired it, thinking it was a weapon to be used against the humans. Now, following Sovereign's failure, it is exerting its control over the Batarians.

With humanity and the Turians waging war in the Batarian systems, Turian and human worlds will be easier targets and less well defended.

This would go well with the teaser trailer, where Earth's defenses seem to have been shattered easily.

I like where that plot is heading. Either we get to save the batarians and rub it in their faces for the next few centuries, or we get to kill them all. Win-win.

To clarify, I'm not sure about the Leviathan of Dis part. I'm confident, however, that the Batarians are going to get used by the Reapers -- willingly or not, knowingly or not.

It's nowhere near solid, but "Arrival" sure does strongly seem to imply the arrival of the Reapers. I think the Batarians are going to facilitate that arrival, either because they believe the Reapers will let them live or because they have been fooled into thinking their actions will have some other result.

========

Now, in the "Really a reach" category, bordering on a conspiracy theory level of logical inference:

"The Arrival" is a 1996 sci-fi movie that flopped at the box office. I've never seen it, but some members of this forum have at least heard of it. I heard about it reading the original "What is Arrival?" thread.

The movie concerned a scientist who discovers a signal from intelligent life outside of the solar system. Then he discoveres signals on Earth going back -- two-way communication. Eventually, he discovers that members of the alien species have already arrived and are working to make the planet habitable for themselves -- and kill the existing occupants.

I admit this is a fanciful notion, that the title of the DLC is a tribute reference to a sci-fi movie that didn't make its budget back after premiering almost 15 years ago, but thought it should be mentioned. I can't find, for instance, if Kenson was a character in the movie.

The Hegemony as villain could also open up room for a Batarian squadmate. A conscientious officer with suspicion of his (secretly) indoctrinated superiors? That could be an interesting character and story.

Also, didn't EA have on mention that there would be something "far reaching" coming out for ME in the first quarter 2011. This would line up with that exactly.

That was Mass Effect 2 on the PlayStation 3.

There is one other possibility it could be another prothean artifact like the ones that the Shadow broker was looking into
