And probably others since I excluded NWN, Jade Empire, MDK2 and Shattered Steel. If you're in a Bioware game, someone you meet early on is going to die. Sometimes they will do so in a flashy way like Gorion, and sometimes they'll go out whimpering like Wilson, but no matter what, they're doomed from the start. I can't wait to see who dies in ME3.

I have little problem with Wesley's death.  That's not being put into question here.

You bring up a lot of games and characters, but they're out of context.  A more appropriate comparison would be if Kaiden or Ashley from Mass Effect died at the beginning of the game.

No they are in context since he is proving BioWares trademark, which is their love of killing a starting teammate. Ashley/Kaiden is out of context since they don't die at the start instead they gave you a hard choice for them (Which wasn't hard for me since I didn't like both of them) which is another trademark of theirs which is the "Choose choice"

What I wonder is why didn't Wesley fight? He had a sword. He could still run around.

If I buy the game, I'm definately gonna mod that. Replace his "run away script with "follow Hawke and fight!".

He got hurt pretty badly, and he is infected by the taint. You try and do something physical taxing with a huge cut on your back.

My point is, which was more emotional?  Jenkins death or Ashley/Kaiden's?

All the way, Maria. All the way. It's warm down here. Warm, and the voices always whisper to keep you company.

it wasnt bad writing... and never ment, but an ogre stormed the plot writing room, and killed the person who made the story for wesley and sibling number 2.

so they just had to end their stories. :)

When the two died, I didn't feel much. I just thought, "Oh. Well then. They're dead. Oh look. Darkspawn." True, it sucks that they died, but when Duncan died, I felt as upset as Alistair. I wanted revenge. For the Hawke sibling and the Templar, I just wanted to get on with it.

I thought it was annoying when the Templar said the Maker's Blessing. Ugh. Formalities. If I died, I would've wanted them to run for it and not linger until a dragon swooped down!

Oh, forgot to add Poe, Lovecraft, Birce, Doyle and De Sade (albeit he in "strange" ways, I give this to you).

You have a lot of digging to do...

Not all situations are the same. People usually forget that writing is like composing music. Beethoven said that the intemezzo before the "portant" motive serves mostly for giving the mood for what it to come; you create an artificial "pause" in the audience so the "strong" part has much more impact.

In writing this MUST happen too. There must be a rythim, elsewhere either the most powerful emotion will get destroyed by the lack of climax. All forms of art is a sort of representation of sex; without rythim all is plain and monotone.

In the case of Duncan he was the climax. In the case of the demo the deaths served to propose a sort of "pause" in the narrative. Two distinct things.

I would agree, if you didn't have Aveline and your family being shaped by these events. While I may not care for Wesley or dead sibling, I may care about the characters that care about them.

I agree. It clearly has an impact on the characters, and it'll likely have repercussions down the road.

How would Kaidan or Ashley dieing at the beginning of the game be any different than Wesley's death?

Bad person to ask since I disliked all 3 of them but I guess Ashley/Kaiden since they let you build a connection to them.

But its a trademark for them to kill a early teammate, its fun to watch and it lets me know "This is a BioWare game" Image IPB

Plus this game lets you choose who dies with which class you choose so there is a lot of writing involved

If you think Bioware has good writing, even by video game standards, then you have never played anything that Avellone was involved in

That's the entire point of this thread.

I know but stop complaining about something that they always do, usally they kill off a charater that means nothing or had very little impact. Them killing off a starting teammate is normal, your just bashing for bashing sake.

Plus why the hell would I want a connection to Jenkins? He is useless same with all the other nobodys...I sure as hell don't care for Carver that much since he is just boring...I think they set him up to die, poor mage players!
