1) It's ugly.
2) It's slow.
3) It's away from all the other forums for the games I own and I don't really see what's special about this game to have it's own "social site".
4) The forums themselves look more like a series of blog posts than a forum. Individual posts don't seem to be as "defined" as on the original forums. (Sorry I explained that pretty poorly, but I'm not sure how to get across what I mean, cluttered maybe?)
5) I realise I have no choice but to make the switch to these forums if I want access to "Official Forums", but how did the idea of this "social site" come about? Why wasn't it done for say, Neverwinter Nights?

Anyway, no doubt I'll get used to it eventually ( not like I have a choice <_< ) and that this post will be rendered somewhat moot, so please take no offence, I just don't see the plus side of it yet.

( p.s. CHANGE, NOOO, I CAN'T HANDLE CHANGE! lol :P )

It wasn't done for neverwinter nights because that came out years ago.

The site isn't ugly, its not slow and it is certainly not cluttered. Its the same format numerous other forums use and the same basic format of any forum in existence. Why does a game have to be special to have a website created for it? It sounds like you will hate this no matter what and are searching for a valid reason to justify your dislike.

No one knew how the community was going to form around Neverwinter Nights. As multiplayer, single player and PWs began surfacing, created by the toolset that shipped with NWN, it began to evolve.

The Social Site for Dragon Age is intended to be a one stop shop for your DA needs. Be it information (forums, wiki), to new single player modules and add-ins (projects, groups), to blogs and photo albums. The Social Site is bringing it all together in one great, easy to use site.

Of course, there is still the evolution of the community, so make your ideas heard in what you'd like to see or have changed. Suggestions are always welcome. As the needs of the DA community grows and changes, so shall the Social Site.

No, I didn't mean it should be done for NWN now if that's what you meant, but it was a huge game with a large community, I just wondered why it wasn't considered for it. ( Maybe it was, who knows? )

As for the rest it's a matter of opinion of course, but I find the site ugly, slow and cluttered, individual posts are not clearly differentiated, the forums still suffer from not showing other posts when you're replying, making it difficult to refer back to any post other than the one you quoted.

I've never seen a forum use this format ( Maybe for xbox games? would explain a lot.) and yes the "same basic format" it has posts, replies etc. however the implementation just seems poor to me. Certainly not enough for me to feel the old forums needed to be closed. Though I can see the reasoning behind putting them here if this is supposed to be somekind of  "hub" for DA.

It's not a case of the game being, or not being special ( You're correct that I wasn't exactly pleased with it once I got to play it, it's not bad, just nothing like what I'd hoped. ) Games have their own websites/forums, but this just seems to be trying to do something new and I wanted an overview of what it's really trying to achieve. Bring Xbox and PC users together? Jam everything for this game on one site? Both? Something else? More? Less?

I've come here asking questions because I wanted to know what this site is supposed to be. I've never seen a games site/forums referred to as a "social network" before ( although of course in essence that's what they are anyway ). You seem to have made the mistake that I'm trying to troll, however I'm not the sort of person to waste my time replying to posts if that's all I was doing. People seem to get so up in arms whenever someone who doesn't agree with the hype states their opinion and asks questions. I'm just asking, but your post didn't seem to answer anything I asked.

Thanks for the reply, I figured that was the jist of it, is there anywhere I can get some in-depth reasoning behind it?  ( Except blogs...I hate blogs. )

I somehow doubt the layout of the forums will ever change ( even if I was able to express my opinions directly to Bioware), which is a shame, because I honestly do find them really difficult to look at, they look like blog posts, arn't defined enough and not being able to see the rest of the thread when replying makes things like multi-quoting people ( like this reply in fact ) somewhat more difficult than it needs to be. I always felt the bioware forums were a little dated but servicable, however nothing seems to have improved, it just seems backwards.

I guess the saddest part is that I'll never use any part of the site other than the forums and looking for mods. However I'm sure there will be a better website dedicated to mods made which sort of renders the entire site moot and imo the forums arn't as good as the exisiting/previous/soon to be deceased DA forums.....so yeah. Sad faces all around really.

Still, good luck to everyone here who can settle in so easily, maybe it's a sign that I'm getting old and stuck in my ways? -_-

p.s. the quoted text could be clearer instead of a dotted line around it...*sigh*
