The supposed 100+ hours in Origins were like 50 or less for a lot of people.

The point being?
Some people take longer to play through then others (Thank you Cpt. Obvious).

So it is actually pretty silly to argue wether DA2 will take upwards of 50 hours to complete (unless someone were to add something like "on the average").
I know I'll take longer then 50 hours to complete it if the statement that it's longer then ME2 is true. I also know (well, not really know, but I'm safe to assume) that there will be lots of people who will take a lot less then 50 hours to complete DA2 (just simply based on the statement that it will be shorther then DA:O).

So it's clear! Posted Image

DA2 will take more then 50 hours to complete AND it will take far less then 50 hours to complete. Posted Image

What we need is someone to tell us how long it took him to complete each game.  With several of those data points, we can start to draw some conclusions.

My first DAO playthrough took me 87 hours.  I did most of the sidequests.

I wonder how the timer works, though.  If it counts the time I spend trying to decipher dialogue options, DA2 may well take longer than DAO.

I beat DA:O in 75 hours, ME1 in 25 hours and ME2 in 30-35 hours so I'm sure I will definitely hit 50 hours in DA2.

Does PC Gamer say what difficulty? If its 50 on normal then nightmare will most likely take me longer than Origins.

First playthrough of Origins took me around 35-40 hours to complete. :)

The total time taken usually depends on how the person plays. Some people, like my dad, will zip through the dialogue as quickly as possible. Others will listen to every line. I took, maybe...80 hours or more (don't remember the exact number now) to finish my first playthrough of DA:O. All subsequent playthroughs took a lot less time.

Eventually you'll get to a point where you know the dialogue almost by heart, so you probably end up skipping most of it. That definitely lowers the total time. In any case, as long as it works out to 30-50 hours (or more), it seems okay.

Eh, took me 65 hours for my first playthrough on nightmare. Also, it's been confirmed by Bioware that Dragon Age 2 is longer than Mass Effect 2, but shorter than Dragon Age: Origins.

I still can't fathom how anyone finishes origin in 20 hours

I skipped all dialogue and cutscenes, and I play casual.

So, then, this is your fault?

Zing!

So there for those saying the game will be short.

How can anyone complain about anything over 20 hours being "short" these days?  Bioware is one of the few companies left that are releasing decent sized games.

Because some of us have this thing called an attention span?

Ok, prepare for me to troll. Most of the idiots fine people in this thread are the demographic that affected Bioware's marketing descision and design philosophy for this game. Most people played human? BOOM, done. Most people don't like reading? BOOM, dialogue wheel. A lot of people quit in the first hour? BOOM, taken care of. Many people didn't finish the game? SHABOOM.

Well, you got the game you apparently wanted, instead of a game, in my opinion, like DAO. Now, I know I am being petty and childish, but, you know. it's the internet. I also know I am completely overgeneralizing the demographic and there are many PC players who (for whatever reason) love the direction of DA2. But I am disappointed, so there.

Edit: As time completed 1st, on hard 93, 2nd on nightmare, 87, 3rd, absolute everything playthrough on nightmare, 118, 4th, nighmare, not absolutely everything, but 80 hours.

Personally, I take my sweet asss time, read all text and explore every nook and cranny of an RPG and if I cannot get a minimum 100 hours out of a $60 price tag, its very dissapointing, especially with a gaming experience like the DA universe were you never want it to end...

Its hard to believe that people that crash through a game in record time really appreciate the gaming environments that are a rare materpiece of immersion .. IMHO

i think with awakening dragon age origins took me 82 hours.and DAO itself was 62 on easy. But i spend a lot of time getting to know my party and romancing and hearing the funny party banter and such so just me. if I at least get 60 hours out of DA2 i wont complain

So by your logic...
60% of the players played as a Soldier in ME2. BOOM! ME3 will have only one class - Soldier.
80% of the players who started the game finished it. BOOM! In ME3 you will one-shot kill every enemy.

Considering how much padding Origins had (Deep Roads, Fade Dear God the Fade) 50 hours sounds like a perfect length for the game (assuming there is nothing like the Sloth Demon to trade you in the fade for days and days)

Agreed. 50 hours is more than reasonable is some of the DAO style padding has been removed.

For a game paced over 10 years , that seems very short.

somewhere around the 30 mark would not suprise me in the least. 20 is about on par with Jade Empire from what I recall.

That doesn't tell me anything.  There many factors into how many hours it takes an individual to beat a game.  I mean Morrowind can take anywhere from 12 minutes to 300 hours to beat depending on "playstyle".

Should be a least that I would think with all DLC, probably more for plp that take their time and enjoy the experience not rushing through it to be the first to get a post up stating "Just finished it in 15 hours!!"

Like their looking for a prize or a pat on the back or something..hehe..big deal you finished it now go spend your next $60 ASAP

It is all about how you play. I love to explore and look for new treasures, codex entries, etc. My game will likely last longer than someone who wants to blaze through, kill everything, and explore minimally. (though, I don't understand how someone wouldn't want to explore the world and everything within it.) :)
