Dragon Age 2 to take "upwards of 50 hours to complete"

Every player will take different times. To give a Bioware example, people said Jade Empire was about a 25-30 hour game, and MANY players agreed with that... Took me 13 hours. The time is an ESTIMATE based on a casual player, it can't and isn't meant to take into account the wide range of player skill and experience with roleplaying games.

Ok, prepare for me to troll. Most of theidiotsfine people in this thread are the demographic that affected Bioware's marketing descision and design philosophy for this game. Most people played human? BOOM, done. Most people don't like reading? BOOM, dialogue wheel. A lot of people quit in the first hour? BOOM, taken care of. Many people didn't finish the game? SHABOOM.
So by your logic...
60% of the players played as a Soldier in ME2. BOOM! ME3 will have only one class - Soldier.
80% of the players who started the game finished it. BOOM! In ME3 you will one-shot kill every enemy.
Hey, if that's the way they run their design decisions, then yes, don't be surprised if that happens.

Time is totally subjective. Some people took 100+ hours to beat Origins. Others took 20. All we know for sure is that DA:2 is shorter than Origins. So, take the time it took you to beat Orgins, and expect a shorter time than that.
For me, it was 26 hours for Origins, so I'm assuming 20 hours for DA:2. On the flip side, if you somehow took 100 hours for Origins, maybe you'll find 80 hours this time.
Did you do.. like.. anything concerning reading or listening? I mean, the combat alone takes longer than that unless your on casual..
I just don't know how people can beat that game in the time frames they talk about..
I don't think they are beating the game in those frames to be honest.

and depends how much you want to do.
I completed DAO 4 times (2 out of boredom and over a few weeks) , if you decide to do ALLLL side quests then it will take a lot longer then steaming through the main objectives enough to simply complete it. It took 100 hours for me to do DOA and all the side quests/DLC ect ect with 2 characters, and then about 50 hours there abouts to do it all again with another two, ignoring most of the side quests except the easy ones i was "passing by" (the times are going on what my steam account displays as time played)
Will most likely do similar with DA2

Sure you could speed blittz both games and beat them within 5 hours. But there was over 50 hours of side stuff to do. REAL side stuff, not like in Origins where it was just some guys hanging out in the market square. Bioware created entire cities for the express purpose of side quests, some of them quite large and elaborate.
With the budget crunch what we're seeing is the loss of the side quests and the main quest becomes most of the game experience.
Which is good if you have very little time and just beat games once and be done with them. Bad if you are used to the classic Bioware CRPGs where you are looking for replay value.

I also think that many fail to add in the hours spent reloading after losing a battle to the total time logged at end of game. I remember battles at least a dozen or so that I spent 30-45 minutes battling just to get wiped and having to reload, that lost time never gets recorded in the game hours final total, so i also add in another 10% of total time at end game to the final hours to compensate. So if final game hours were 80 it would be 88
Could be. Everyone should just use the gameclock time.

Why people play RPG's and rush thru conversations and ignore side quests...
It's like having a meal and just inhaling your food rather than chewing and enjoying it

Mmm now that I think of it, I spend about 32.6 seconds between clicks X a 4 mob fight minus bio break and phone calls + time waiting for health pots to reload, shiit DAO recalculated actually took me 311.77 hours to finish, thanks for the heads up you geeks you...hehee

Personally I always do all the side quests in every single run, because I'm a loot addict. I NEED my shiny objects. As long as it's a good 30 hours at least I'll be satisfied, though it would be nice if it takes me longer.
Same here! I love side-quests.. Anything that prolongs the game-play I'm all for it as long as it's interesting.
Here's hoping DA2 has plenty of exploration (not just waves of hordes and cutscenes) and does in fact take well over 50 hours..

What we need is someone to tell us how long it took him to complete each game. With several of those data points, we can start to draw some conclusions.Norker wrote...

The supposed 100+ hours in Origins were like 50 or less for a lot of people.
The point being?
Some people take longer to play through then others (Thank you Cpt. Obvious).
So it is actually pretty silly to argue wether DA2 will take upwards of 50 hours to complete (unless someone were to add something like "on the average").
I know I'll take longer then 50 hours to complete it if the statement that it's longer then ME2 is true. I also know (well, not really know, but I'm safe to assume) that there will be lots of people who will take a lot less then 50 hours to complete DA2 (just simply based on the statement that it will be shorther then DA:O).
So it's clear!
DA2 will take more then 50 hours to complete AND it will take far less then 50 hours to complete.
My first DAO playthrough took me 87 hours. I did most of the sidequests.
I wonder how the timer works, though. If it counts the time I spend trying to decipher dialogue options, DA2 may well take longer than DAO.
My first DAO playthrough took 106 hours and ME2 took me 54 hours, though I'd say the potential for increased playing time is greater in DAO (As was mentioned ME2 has very linear missions, not a lot of exploring or "sightseeing").
"Finished" ME2 after 3 playthroughs, haven't finished yet with DAO with several playthroughs and some still in progress. Probably spent over 300 hours playing DAO
Another thing to consider, my shortest DAO playthrough took me 74 hours (~2/3rds of my first playthrough), while my shortest ME2 playthrough took 41 hours (~80%).
Just a few numbers.
