Looks like there's a big difference when running DX11, which surprises the hell out of me since Bioware has been so lackadaisical when it comes to 3D technology over the years.

If anyone wants the skinny on the various graphical options that will be available in DA2, PCgameshardware.de did a nice synopsis. It's in German, so just look at the pics (unless you can speak German of course)

Thanks a lot for the link! Now I'm glad I bought a new graphics card last week.
And bonus points for using "lackadaisical" in a complete sentence!

It's good to have a better look at what DX11 does for the game. The floor tiles look way more 3D and have depth in DX11 which i figure is what tesselation can do that funny word people throw around when discussing DX11
Yes, it looks like the tessellation is on in the DX11 shot with the square cobblestones.

I don't see why DX 9.c can't have higher resolution textures than what is offered by medium. I'd like a high res texture pack asap please.

Bah, it's time for a new computer. Something was bothering me about the graphics but I couldn't put a finger on it. Now I can say it's the lightning on people.

This looks good.

This looks horrible.
I hope it will be possible to customise the graphics via .ini file a bit more than in the options.

Precisely. The game is under-utilising DX 9.c for the PC IMO. My GPU has 640 mb of ram which is sufficient for better quality textures than those available under medium settings.

Both pics look the same to me? I don't need to see the grit on the walls and the blemishes on Darkspawn... what else does DX11 show?

You could have all the Vram in the world and it wouldn't help your card render textures if it has a poor texture fill rate,

I am interested if my ATI HD5770 could run this on the Ultra High settings.
Does that article perhaps mention something about performance with various videocards?

From the demo what i can gather is it makes walls and floors look more 3D and textures have depth rather than looking painted on. Fire and spells look more bright and cast crisp shadows. There is probably more but it's hard to judge from a demo what DX11 can do. It looks a whole lot nicer than DX9 anyways. The gulf between DX10 and DX11 remains to be seen with the full game. The judgement of DX11 is bearing in mind being unable to set graphics to Very high in the demo and not being able to switch many graphical options on.

Look at the floor tiles.
DX9
DX11
Tesslation adds polygons, makes stuff look much more 3D.

I have that cards little brother the HD5670 and it can run in DX11 on medium but on high the framerate drops to unacceptable levels for playability. if you get a really high framerate on high in the demo in DX11 you can probably play it on full though Bioware are reccomending the HD5830 at least for that so you'll just have to test it. HD5830 and above should be smooth maxed out.
