"If it's too late for Cunning......" you prove my point for me. As if cunning is the only smart way to go.

Are you quoting me or him?

you, but does it really matter. It seems anyone not min/maxing is going to hear about it. Ive done the spec, it makes nightmare seem like normal or easier. The only dangers when min /max'ing involve falling asleep from boredom or fireballing your own team so they might actually take some damage. This man, err dwarf, has gone over and above the rpg call of duty, (thank you for serving btw), and specificly said that min/max was not what he was looking to do. Its not always about making the game easier.

Hi people, wanted to report back and tell how things are going so far.
Made some long gaming sessions and advanced to Awakening already lol. Playthrough was smooth, even the Archdemon and all before that, didn't expect it to be that easy on nightmare actually. Like a stroll in the park... with Darkspawn (quote).
I put most points in strength to get more damage with heavier weapons. So I got the Veshialle equipped, offhand weapon is changing - tested different ones - but I like to have an axe or sword there too. At the moment I wield Duncan's Sword (as a remembrance of him so to say, he got me out of Dust Town!). Stuffed both weapons with Silverite and mostly Paralyze Runes, works together nicely with Coup de Grâce. I don't need to backstab, just go at the enemy and bam! ;) Much like a dual wield warrior, but nicer.
You got more tricks at your disposal that make it just fun to play. And you got more useful abilities than a warrior actually, e.g. Pinpoint Strike, Weak Points. Matter of taste maybe. But the warrior can't kick, I just love to kick every enemy I am fighting lol, I just love that!
Like I said, nice to play without any problems, not an über-killer but still very nice, I am happy being a Thug (oh my!), really.

Stats now:
STR 65 (rest goes here)
DEX 46 (won't go higher, all I need for talents)
WIL 20
MAG 12
CUN 22
CON 14

Finished Origins with Wade's Superior Heavy Dragonscale set on, but swapped the armor for Evon's. Got pretty high defense - also thanks to Keen Defense - and together with Heavy Armor like that it is comfortable even when surrounded by a lot of enemies. As I reached Awakening I grabbed the Legionnaire Scout spec. Even tougher now, got no problem tanking anyway. I haven't decided on the third spec. yet lol.
But I still want to get some other Archery talents. Until now I skilled the first row up to Master Archer and only use Rapid Shot mainly. That works nicely even without Accuracy - enemies that are too far away or stragglers fleeing catch an arrow in their heads. As bow I use Sorrows of Arlathan, fast one. I'd prefer a crossbow though, but the damage does not increase, so. Maybe I will try a fix for crossbow damage, just because I think a crossbow is more fitting for a dwarf after all.
I changed the armor now, because Wade's is ugly, lol. Nevermind the stats, the Thug is effective enough for me. So I equipped the Stormchaser Mail (it looks cool :P), Strormchaser Gauntlets (nice stats), Fleet Feet boots (also nice stats) and the Helmet of Honnleath.

That's it so far. As I said, the build works nicely, no problems at all. The Thug fits perfectly the roleplay and story as a Dwarf Commoner. Well, that's it for now. Next stop is Kal'Hirol I guess, want to pick up Sigrun early. ;D

antigravitycat, sounds like fun! If I were you I would equip Cailan's boots (and possibly gloves), which would go very nicely with Evan's the Great armor. Evans gives you 10% dodge and Cailan's greaves gives you 20%. Add that to rogue talent, Evasion (20%) and Dark Passage from Power of Blood (10%) and you're looking at dodging 60% of attacks alone without even factoring in Dex. There is other rogue friendly gear that gives you dodge as well, like Voice of Velvet in Awakening (25%), it's the best dagger in the game.

But for effectiveness and role playing, Sentinal Armor in Awakening is freaking awesome. It's the most badass looking armor in the game and it gives you massive boost to STR.
