I think a story about you chasing Morrigan and discovering more about Flemeth would have been much better for a sequel instead of half baked 1-2 hours DLC.  They need a new engine and longer development time to successfully pull off a Mass Effect styled Dragon Age game.  Just my humble, possibly misguided opinion.

Because an opinion can't be wrong.

Which is partly true, if it's given in earnest and said opinion isn't outrageous and can be taken as subjective.

When people say the combat is a hack and slash affair now, it's simply wrong, no matter how you slice it. It's still the same combat at the end of the day as in Origins. (At the core anyway)

One thing I will miss is the cool finishing moves - I know they're still there but when you're flipping around 24/7 it kind of takes away the impact of an awesome finisher.

This is what I meant by combat lacking dynamics. Combat so cluttered with flips, spins, teleports, explosions etc. etc. that it's impossible to see anything. Everything is so 'super cool hot rod' all the time that nothing stands out.

It's just a mess. One of those cases where less is more.

Saw the same garbage arguments and complaining when ME2 was demo'd.

Of course the verdict now is that ME2 surpassed ME1 in every respect.

How exactly did you come to that verdict ?

Are you referring to the Dark Ritual subplot? If that's the case... it'd be hard to make that the focus of the game at this point, mostly because well, its quite possible for it to not have even happened, based on your choices in the end game of DAO.

Oh yes... because you can sum up the ENTIRE game from a demo that takes less than an hour to complete. Said demo is also locked to one difficulty level with only a few other game features and also showed only a tiny bit of the story/dialog aspects.

Paraphrase wheel repeatedly removed you from the game, choice and dialogue was unrealistic tosh.
"Is that you Rebecca...it's me Chris". " I seem to be trapped...wait there "
Coupled with an almost feminine voiced Protaganist made the character very weak.

And you don't think a silent zombie of a protagonist from DAO didn't remove you from the game? I don't see what you're saying. I'll take the new dialog wheel to reading a list of options that say almost the same thing with no voice attached. While I loved DAO, this took me out of the game more than anything else. While my main gripe with the dialog wheel is that I can't predict what Hawke can say, I do like that I can tell the intent of what is being said from the icon indicators. It seems to me you just don't like the voices.

I don't feel bad that you couldn't enjoy the demo. You're arguments against it are rather weak and I can tell you're one of those players that are so married to DAO that you can't appreciate change

Thankyou for your post.Few remarks to be made here without btw telling you that your reasoning is weak.

Firstly , a silent protaganist and  text to make choices as to exactly what you want to say is very immersive. We know this as books tend to be more popular than their cassette versions . I have no objections to being told a story or viewing a film. But as the main attraction of a good well written  rpg is that YOU are rollplaying a character..essentially YOU are that character.
Wouldn't you agree that having a voiced protaganist that you don't like (as you say) is of detriment to your experience .When it is unnecersary .If you like attending soccer matches and are forced to wear a headset and listen to classical music.Would you not object and think this is ruining my experience.

Please accept other peoples opinion.I respect yours...even though I find your claims of more immersive a nonsense. You are listening to a load of noise from a voice that is not your own,it can only ever be a distraction.it's a scientific consensus that is easily demonstrated.

Try reading in a library whilst listening to a drag racing..or playing chess at a soccer match.

TLDR for my post: If it ain't broke? DA:O was broken big time buds.

But many mods fixed it.  Now, for me, DAO is a perfect game and I've played it many times.

So purely opinions as I thought.

A verdict is something that is factual not yours or anyone else's opinion.

I'd have to personally disagree with this.  I liked ME better than ME2.

At the end of the day, this isn't a game aimed at DAO fans.

It's a game aimed at console players who said 'I might buy a sequel if there was more anime combat and less boring stuff like conversations and choices'.

So they made a half-assed hybrid instead of a proper RPG or action game. It's aimed squarely at a specific audience, and those of us who liked BG, IWD, P:T or DAO simply have to accept that audience is not us.

Its' a shame BW lost faith in the very things that made ME1 and DAO so great. I don't like to see every single game homogenised.

i did like how you can position your characters better now in ps3 version but i'm disappointed in how the combat was handeled in the demo. However i'll keep in mind that i didn't like DA:O gameplay when i first started playing it either then i grew to love it.

Supreme, combat will not really be different in the full version, outside of speeded up combat and the animations. The auto-attack toggle will be included.

I agree. Why change a game that was adored by so many? They've taken a great RPG and dumbed it down into a pseudo action-rpg.

People play dragon age for the story and the slow strategic combat. In the demo I felt like I was playing Zelda...

I honestly hope I'm misinterpreting this statement. I mean, Nicholas Boulton, feminine? Say what?

The story, how can you judge a story by playing the introduction? I find everything to be improved, be it artstyle or combat. I cannot judge the story because guess what. NONE OF US HAVE PLAYED THE GAME.

Story-wise, Celleye just summed up everything I had to say. Combat-wise, it really is a matter of personal preference. I respect the fact you hate it. Can't you respect the fact other people disagree with you and do enjoy it?
Personally, I found it difficult to get back into Origins' combat system, after having given the demo a shot.

Good post, well written .

Still nothing wrong with putting this point across without the need for people attacking you from an undefensible position. One has to ask the trolls and flamers..how can they remark they were fans of DAO yet have nothing but complaint and at the same time find DA2 fantastic when it's almost a completely different game.

Just who are the real Dragon Age fans here ?
