My opinion on what Bioware Is Really About.

I am a very loyal customer to Bioware and I have only played mass effect 1 and 2 and dragon age: origins.
After all of those 3 games when the credits come up i put my xbox360 controller down, sit back to listen to the awesome credit music and say to myself 'Wow'. I am always left gobsmacked and with a sense of accomplishment when i finish a Bioware game and I know it is only a game.
The art direction for DA2 I am not over the moon about, the combat i think is an improvement, but these two things are not what DA2 will be about for me. It is all about the story and the journey you are taken on. Call of Duty is a nice looking game but when i finish the single player I think ok now multiplayer. It isn't memorable or 'epic'. When I finish a 50-60hour playthrough of a Bioware game i just am amazed and upset that it has ended lol. This is all my opinion and not a fact or anything. But the change in graphics and combat and the speech system i welcome, because I know that to me this game will deliver where it is most important. It will be another epic journey to remember.

I've played more Bioware games than ME1-2 and Origins but this demo leaves me uninspired and for the first time I'm not excited for a release day Bioware release...perhaps the formula is getting old for me? Hope you enjoy the journey, just wish I had as much excitement as you do.

I agree with you, that Bioware games are more about the journey than anything else, but I think gameplay wise they've done good on advancing their ideas. If it were up to most of the bleeding hearts around this place, DA2 would play like Baldurs Gate, which was good for its time, but would seem pretty bland, and archaic in a modern day game.
I have no doubt DA2 will be a spectaular game. Im not blind to its faults, but I do have a good perspective when it comes to enjoying the game for what it is, and not what I percieve it should be. Thats a big problem around here.

Thankyou, now here is someone who can express his opinion and disappointment but also wish other people will enjoy it. I am sorry you are not excited for this game, i just hope you still pick it up even when the price goes down and i hope you enjoy it.Inarborat wrote...
Great post. Before this game, I would have totally agreed with you.

Yes i agree totally, this game has some what i believe are faults but i would never say so without playing the full game as it stands my opinion is not an informed one. But yes just because i do not like something about a game i do not demand the developer change it. It is what it is, but if there is one thing you can trust, it is that Bioware will take you on a journey to remember and it will have a great story.Purple People Eater wrote...
Well as far as most of the people around here go, they dont like change, they're stuck in a nostalgic rut, and they think anything not in line with their narrow minded ideal isnt any good.

Now there's something I can play while I'm waiting for DA2. I have it sitting unloved and unopened but have never gotten around to it. Nor have I finished my run of KotOR.

OP, your reasons for loving BW games are identical to mine. So many moments in ME1 when I was awestruck -- the first time you approach the Citadel, becoming a spectre for the first time, Virmire, Ilos and Vigil, the ending after the battle ... all amazing. ME2 had similar moments (esp. the intro) although not quite to the same level, but seriously there are no other games out there that make me feel quite so amazed. In DAO the Landsmeet was some of the best story I've ever played through. I have faith BW will continue to make amazing stories, and while we can all moan and argue about elements of game play we do or don't like, for me BW games hang off the stories. And I'm sure DA2 will be just as brilliant.

If you've been playing BioWare games from the start you would have seen how much their quality has decreased with DA2.
THAT's why people are complaining, they have high expectations. They set the standard with games like BG2 and KOTOR

absolutely, NOBODY does a story like Bioware. The battle of ostagar was another one of those moments for me, watching the cutscene of the soldiers lining up scared and then the darkspawn arrive and they send in the dogs and the fire arrows. It was just epic. I hope we get more moments like these in DA2. Good points about mass effect, the intro of me2 was brilliant and the ending of me1. Like you said no other games give you moments that make me feel like that.catabuca wrote...

I thought they were about medical software. I don't follow current events much.
I always think the same thing when I see the Bioware logo. I imagine a sterile facility with blue flourescent lights and horrific mutants floating in growth tanks.

Yep, I've got both for xbox and they play on my 360 (well, I'm assuming JE will, KotOR does no problem). Although I believe you can get either one or both for Mac? In which case I might make the jump, because I prefer DAO on Mac (although getting DA2 for 360 first ... may get it for Mac too later down the line if the mods make it appealing enough).

You can play Jade Empire on the 360. I should know I have done it.

DA2 has a differently structured story than DA:O, as it is a story being told rather than a story being 'lived'. Cassandra asks specifically about Hawke, so it makes sense for the dwarf to focus his story on the characters rather than on the surroundings. So to me, the style they chose for DA2 (highly detailed characters, minimalistic surroundings) fits that perfectly.

Try Xbox Live's games on demand, they used to be there and IIRC only cost $20 @.
