[Survivalist]

Hi
Just got the demo on steam. Works fine until I kill the ogre then listen to the cut scene that goes along the lines of "let me tell you what really happened". Then it crashes.
Here is the only error message I get:
AppName: dragonage2demo.exe     AppVer: 1.0.5001.0     ModName: msvcr90.dll
ModVer: 9.0.30729.4148     Offset: 0006ccb5
Anybody got any ideas?

I can't find a file called msvcr90.dll in the steam folder, should there be one?
Steam has validated the files.
It gets to the loading screen then the screen goes black.
Turning V sync off made no difference.
Specs:
Windows XP 32 bit
2GB RAM
ATI 5670 512MB

Also the files (under common in steam)  where copied from my brothers pc and i validated them to save me downloading it.

I had a similar problem on normal PC demo, I tried all sorts of things but it kept crashing at Character creator. The only thing that worked was to run the game in Windowed mode (not full screen), I was then able to finish the demo!

Try that, hopefully it solves your problem

I tried windowed mode but it made no difference, I gather that after you defeat the ogre you get a character creation screen, I say gather as it crashes before it loads, which would imply it is a different error to what many other people are getting and hence why disabling v sync didn't work. I'll try running it on minimum graphics.

My demo crash in randon parts of the game! each time i play it crashes in a diferent part... i can't finish it! going to try play in windowed mode!

I had the same problem. The only thing that seemed to work for me is if I opened the different tabs to customize the character and change his or her name in the creator before starting the game. My game crashed a few times before I tried this and afterwards it started up fine.

Tried minimum settings, made no difference. Always crashes at the same part for me.

By starting the game you mean progressing to the next section of the game? Mine crashes before I get to the creator screen. I'm wondering whether I've got a file to do with the creator currupted somehow, could dev tell me what files are associated with this section?

After the first ogre and finishing that cutscene you should be going straight into the character creator.  I wasn't crashing after the cutscene, but after trying continuing the game from the creator menu.  Sorry, I misunderstood which point in the game you were talking about.

So much for that. It's still crashing.

I'm suspecting it could have something to do with how I copied the files off my brother's pc. grr out of internet quota so can't re-download until next month.

This is really annoying me, I know I have all the right files, and the game runs until that one point, so wtf is happening. Is there anyway to get steam to redo the bit where it changes the directx and coding stuff when you launch the game for the first time? Telling steam to uninstall it and reinstall it doesn't seem to do it. I don't know if the problem could be to do with that or not, but it's the only thing I can think of.

I had the same problem.  I turned off the anti-aliasing and that seemed to solve the problem.

aerowars617 is right! i played in windowed mode and stop crashing!! i get too the end two times!! one as a warrior and other as a rogue!! the game is awesome!! can't wait for the full version!!

My Fame crashes rght after the creation screen.



It doesn't give me an error message, Windows reports it stopped responding.



Windows 7 64 bit btw

Try disabling V-sync. That solved it for me.

Tried that, said I had it upto date but I rebooted anyway, still crashes. Tried windowed, no AA, no V sync, updated drivers none of them make a difference. So doesn't really seem like a graphics issue.
Doesn't seem to be a directx problem. I repaired C++ not sure what that does exactly, although not much it would seem - it made no difference.

Hm, did you try to just reinstall it ?

I tried reinstalling (although I might try the none steam version in a bit) but it saved all the settings which has confused me some what. Are the settings saved to steam or to EA servers or something? Also when I reinstalled it didn't come up with the stuff about updating directx and C++ like it did the first time which sort of makes me think it hasn't uninstalled properly. I just right clicked on it in steam and went delete local content. tbh I don't quite understand how steam installs games, it seems different to how it works if you just have a dvd.

Edit stupid me I know where the setting are saved, in my documents, I'll try deleteing them. although I can't say I'm very hopefull.

Hm, then try non-steam version. Download from website  ..Or I really dunno how to help you then, sry
