Even for high res textures that's pretty lame. I'm not expecting crysis but jesus, a little more work would have been nice.

Sadly it doesnt look that great still. Especially if you compare it to Witcher 2,Two Worlds 2 or TES:Skyrim or DA:O.<br />

I'm currently very annoyed about the graphics settings in the DA 2 demo. I hope they are radically modified in the release. Here's why I'm upset:

I think that it is wrong to bind texture resolutions to a DX version: they are only very loosely connected and my 8800 GTS 640 is more than capable of rendering high resolution textures.

If DA 2 implements DX 11 Tessellation for ground surfaces why does it not implement DX 9.c Parallax Occlusion Mapping or some similar DX 10 version for Vista users.

Why is Anisotropic Filtering locked out of medium settings (DX 9)? I have had modify the config file to force AF on (in addition to my control panel overrides)

Why is Anti Aliasing only possible at x8? A DX 11 card could run DA 2 at 32x AA and I have forced my AA to x16 (or x8Q).

Why are motion blur and depth of field similarly restricted to DX 10/11 even though DX 9 systems can perform these effects?

In short these technological lockouts are not warranted from a technical point of view. Because of the current graphics implementation I am having to modify erfs, inis and force profiles just to bring the quality up to a level that doesn't make me pull my hair out. DA 2 is not graphically demanding and I currently run at an average 45fps with all of the overrides mentioned.

There are only medium textures in the demo for both DX versions. When it comes out you can select the highest textures, you just wont get enhanced (shader?) effects because of it being on dx9.

Also the demo is locked out of a lot of things, not necessarily representative of the retail game (though it should be, it's not in this case). They just wanted to make sure someone didn't stupidly select something too high.

Maybe.  I hope they improve upon the current situation.  There is a high resolution erf in the DA 2 textures folder; however, they're the same size and pasting the high erf into the medium folder has zero effect, so you may be correct about resolution being bound to medium for all.  Setting system settings too high should only lower performance it shouldn't break anything.  We'll see in the end I suppose.

Here's one question I had re: DA2 graphics, and given the thread, I figured this may be appropriate. For whatever reason. I can't enable DX10 in the demo. I know DX11 is buggy, but the only options I have for the render are DX10 which caps out at medium and DX11 which my card doesn't support. I already figured out that disabling V-Sync removes the skipping/loading in conversations - is there a way to enable DX10?

On the PC you select the DX11 renderer and High graphics for DX10 features. You still need Vista/SP2 or Windows 7 or you're stuck with DX9.

You can fight like a krogan, run like a leopard, but those skewish rough stones to the left belong more to Counter Strike (the first one) than anything else.

So I pick the DX11 renderer and high graphics? That sounds counterintuitive, but okay. I'm fine with my OS.
