For those that don't know about this trick, here it is. I've only tested this on my NVIDIA Card so far and I can't guarentuee the same effect on ATI Cards:

(1) Go into the configuration utility and select DX11, High Settings and also make sure you turn off Vertical Sync. Then close the utility (and the launcher).
(2) After this, re-name "DragonAge2Demo.exe" within the bin_ship folder inside your Dragon Age 2 Demo directory to "Metro2033.exe".

This will cause the NVIDIA Control Panel to adopt the application settings for DX11 from it's internal database to match Metro 2033.

(3) Now run that re-named exe directly instead of going through the launcher. If you don't then you will simply encounter errors.

My framerate personally went soaring as a result of this (+30/40fps) and all graphical artefacts were gone.

Hope this helps some people.

Doing this only makes the drivers use the SLI profile for that game as far as I know, which is why you would see such a jump in performance on a SLI system. If you're not using SLI, then maybe there are some game-specific optimizations. The fact of the matter is still that you are not seeing anything that DX 11 can do on high settings because 1. it high is using DX 10 hardware calls and 2. DX 11 doesn't work in the demo, as in no features of DX 11 such as tessellation are being used.

I'm not using SLI. My single GTX 460 got huge performance increases from this. I additionally did notice a visible difference between DX9 and DX11 though the biggest things improved were probably the shadows and fire effects.

Like I said, it is using DX10 hardware calls, which support soft shadows, soft particles, and collideable particles.

This causes a 'disc can't be found' error and the game crashes.

That's completely beside the point. No matter what effects are being used they are the same whether you use this technique or not: you simply get improved performance this way. I never claimed to have a fix that would implement all the DX11 features in the full version but simply that this is a quick fix for the existing features in the Demo which run poorly on the majority of systems (either because of artefacts or framerate issues) and this, provided it works, can solve both problems.

Tried it and getting a cobsiderable fps boost. I can now seem to run the demo maxed out (no vsync and 2xaa though) but I have the idea the demo crashes a lot more often now.

I have a better method that worked flawlessly for me.

I altered the Dragon Age 2 game profile within Forceware v267.31 Beta.

I used the Nvidia Inspector tool to do so & backed up the profile to a file. This file can be imported to allow dragonage2demo.exe to utilize the same profile as dragonage2.exe. This profile allows full DX11 support for the demo.

:wizard:

Nvidia Inspector
Exported Dragon Age 2 Profile

If anyone would like a tutorial to do this, please let me know. I'll brew up some screenshots if there is a need.

I actually looked into this because it sounded like a solid idea, and I already have 267.24 (I didn't bother updating to 267.31 because I don't have a multi-monitor setup), but after looking at the Dragon Age 2 Profile, the profile is applied to both dragonage2.exe AND dragonage2demo.exe so I don't think creating a second, specific Dragon Age 2 Demo Profile and importing the other DA2 profile would have any effect.

Also, if, for some reason, dragonage2demo.exe ISN'T in the list of applications for that profile, you could easily add it to that profile, which I think would be simpler than creating a whole new profile.

EDIT: Just realized that it is totally possible that you were recommending this for people who don't want to install the beta driver...which totally makes sense...for those people, here are the steps:
  • Download and install NVidia Inspector with the link CrimsonKnight supplied (site's in German but the download link is at the bottom and the program is in English).
  • Run NVIDIA Inspector and click the wrench button next to the 'Driver Version' box.
  • Click on 'Import user defined profiles' (box with green down arrow) and select 'Dragon Age 2 Profile.nip', also supplied by CrimsonKnight.
  • This will add a profile named "Dragon Age 2" which will work for both the full and demo version of the game.

The odd part is that I originally didn't have it myself even with the new drivers. I wanted to create a combined profile which could be used by anyone with any driver version of newer series of Forceware.

DA2 is great fail for me, i got gtx580, i5 760 oc3,8ghz and got 30fps in dx11 mode, this is just stupid, in dx9 mode i got 200fps. This shows how game is broken. I hope we get any patch soon.
