Any male enjoying RPing a female should think about coming out of the closet, if he has not came out of it already. Just sayin' No offense.

Yeah and you should step out of the door and broaden your perspective. ^^ And no, you obviously haven't already. *g* Yes, offense. :D

Even if we run with the hilariously idiotic suggestion that your RP choices reflect underlying gender identity issues... how does RPing a female make a male homosexual?

I only have an aversion to males that play females in MMORPGs, not single-player ones. I've seen too many dudes trying to get perks from other players because they use smilies or call people "hun." I don't really give a crap either way. Both give you a unique gameplay experience.

I am amazed people keep bringing the insecurity issue when I said it was a Roleplay issue.

It's quite simple actually. There is the type of player who always wants to identify himself / herself with the PC he or she plays. This type usually plays the same gender.

The other type is not interested in identifying him or herself with the PC, he or she just experiences a story from a third-person perspective and chooses the gender more freely.

I'm the latter. ;)

Yeah this explanation pretty much nails it.  I'm one of those that identify with my created character, so it's much more difficult for me to play a female PC.....unless that female PC's identity has already been established ie Lara Croft.

I tend to come up with an idea for a character and then roleplay by making the decisions the character concept I have in my head would make.

As a woman, when I have the choice, I always go female. I'm not opposed to role playing males but since most RPG's I played as a kid were male-oriented, I'm estatic that now I have the choice to play female in many games and I love the heck out of it.

That is actually why I first started playing female characters.  I got SO bored of the fact that all you could ever play in computer games were the same basic male characters that when you could suddenly play girls I loved the idea of playing something different.  Then it kind of became my thing, if a game came out and there was an option, I always played the female character.  Eventually I just found I prefered it for a variety of reasons.  Mind you, in most crpgs I'll do two playthroughs - one male, one female - but the first is invariably a woman. (and the woman is almost invariably the darker, roguish character; while the guy is always the squeaky clean paladin fighter)

I like FemHawke's VA more than the VA of MaleHawke and her default appearance looks good too. But I don't tend to Roleplay the opposite gender in any game unless it isn't my choice, i.e. FF13. I am unsure myself if I will play as FemHawke and want to know other guys' though on this.

If I do play as a female, thank the Maker there is Isabela, would feel even more weird romancing a male.:bandit:

I play both, about 50/50. I  play women because they are hot and they can have hot lesbo sex with Isabella and/or Leliana. I also have them do romances with normal male npcs as well because that is just like straight porn. One thing I can never bring myself to do is romancing a another guy AS a guy, i.e. male/male; I am too straight for that.

ROFL... Oh, moilami.... you make me laugh.  Image IPB   I've noticed you have a habit of saying highly offensive things and then saying "no offense".

Hey, just because it's an old excuse doesn't mean it can't be perfectly true :D  I know folks who roll female characters for that express purpose.

I can never get into a female warden, but for me, FemShep is canon. There Is No Other.

Odd how that works. Time will tell on DA2, but I have an inkling it's going to be the same as Origins. Not sure why.

You're a moron.

One could never know how much better life could be if one could be honest to himself without a need to hide anything. I know that for I am honest to myself and have nothing to hide. They say, by the way, it is a paradise on the other side of the rainbow ;)

Then when Bioware actually released the statistics for the game, it showed that 81% of players played DudeShep..
I LOL'd hard at that one Image IPB

It showed that 80% of players had played a MaleShep. We have no ideally if that means MaleShep exclusively, or if some of those players had also played a FemShep. Interpreting the wording strictly, you could roll 19 FemSheps and 1 MaleShep and be part of that 80%. Obviously MaleShep is more popular, but we really have no idea of the ratio, so perhaps you should LOL a bit less.

It is lol worthy when you see all the Hale preachers get rabies and make up excuses or just put their fingers in their ears and go : LALALALALA femsheps voice acting is the voice of god! LALALA!

No problem at all playing a female.

How do you play a women well? Easy. I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

You can interpret the statistics however you want, it doesn't change the fact that FemShep is a lot less popular than DudeShep..

And it is still funny, because people on these forums thought they were a good representation of the majority of Bioware's customers, when they are in fact only a very small minority.

The vast majority of Bioware's customers do not post on these forums at all..

Yep, I agree completely.  I do usually play male afterwards but I never really have that emotional connection to my male chars than I do with my female chars.   And... I'm the opposite:  My females are squeaky clean princesses of purity and my males are snarky sarcastic rogues itching for a fight... or some booty.  Image IPB

I think this might be the first time I manage to do a second run-through as a male PC. I always give up on it in Mass Effect because of Shepard's ridiculous voice acting. In Origins, I wasn't stoked by the love options for male characters so I never finished those runs, either.

I'll definitely be going Lady Hawke first, but I'm excited to try out the game playing as a man, too, since ManHawke's voice is very intriguing.

Also, it's not weird. I know a lot of table top gamers who almost always make a character that's the opposite gender.

I'm curious, did any of you romance Alistair in DA:O?

It would be too weird for me to role-play as a female, especially in a game with romance and RPG type decision making.

My thought is that you're a little insecure if you feel "weird". It's just a game. Would you feel "weird" playing a character of a different race, or even species? If not, what's different about another sex?

Uh God, I hate when people use that "insecurity" line when they don't know what they're talking about.

It's FAMILIARITY not insecurity.

This AND Leliana + Female Grey Warden AND it just looks epic to see a fragile young female beating the **** out of Darkspawn, Bandits, Dragons, etc.

But that was in DA:O. In DA2 I'll choose male Hawke, mainly because he is voiced.
I just feel more comfortable if the character I'm playing sounds like a man and not like a women (in DA:O it was irrelevant)
