I've never understood why people have a problem playing a different gender. As a long time player of RPG computer games and Pen and Paper RPG's as a player and DM,GM, or ST I've done my share of role playing different characters of different genders. It's no big deal really, it's only a big deal if you allow it to be.

I've never understood this reasoning. The only way you'd see your characters ass all the time male or female is if you were actively staring at it, otherwise you'd just see their back. Which is the main thing I see when I play a 3rd person character.

The people who say "its better than staring at a mans ass for 40 hours" must have some deep sexual issues.

Or we could make the reasonable assumption that the expression is merely a turn of phrase for male gamers who prefer the aesthetics of female PCs.

I'm a girl, and I play male characters a lot more in tabletop than in video games because I'm not limited by the engine or the rig or whatever.  The dude looks like...whatever I think he looks like.  But in video games, I play more female characters (about a 60-40 ratio) because I think the females often just look better.  And if I'm going to be playing something for 60 odd hours, it may as well be pretty :D

I have never, ever, ever understood the desire to play as a different gender.  I am a guy, so naturally, it's going to be easier for me to think like a guy.  I think most guys do it just to see the girl-girl sex scenes.

<_< How shallow.

Or maybe just to see how it affects how people react to you ? It's not unlike playing as another race, really.
Plus, if you want to see the female-only romance option... you kinda have to try a character of the other gender at some point.

You'll become the other gender if you play as that in a game. True story, bro.

Topic has quickly (and predictably) degenerated into insults, vitriol and ad hominem.

Locking.

Go with the male playthrough first, but then female so I get a different point of view. Also because I'm sad :)

I don't mind, but Lady Hawke is tempting, I will go for her first time round then Male Hawke, it doesn't really make a difference.

This is indeed why most guys play females in biowares games. And to drool over the lowcut armor on a female char. Dont believe me?

Lets see bioware make a game with NO Female/female romance option and no way to mod one in. Then we shall see the % males playing female chars drop like a stone

And yes i play both male and female.

I don't know. It feels weird in teh pants and in teh brain, but what can I say FemHawkes VA is awesome and she looks better than the 2 female romance options. Yeah. It's very weird and I wonder If I'm going to play as femhawke in one of my playthrus.

Femhawke needs bigger boobs...like her sister's.
