I am new to the game and am having problems trying to attack and kill tarnesh,it seems when i attack him nothing seems to happen, the characters seem to do nothing, perhaps someone could explain the correct method to attack opponents, thanks

I'd guess that you are looking at the animation on the screen and assuming that every time a sword is swung that equals an attack. This is not the case. Turn on the option to show attack rolls (within options click 'game play' then 'feedback') and this will tell you when an attack is actually made. You might also want to try and disrupt Tarnesh's spell casting with your own spells, e.g. magic missile (if you have a wand of magic missiles this is also a good place to use it).

You must be sparky from pbg forums, lol.
As for Tarnesh, he also casts mirror image, so you have to hack through that unless you manage to distrupt the cast.
