If anything it upset me. And yes, Wesleys death was more dramatic.
It's not even about not knowing Carver well, it's mostly about 3 things. First, it's a cutscene and you can't do anything. Second, whoever dies is acting foolish. Why would anyone aside from a person with deathwish throw himself on the ogre even if 3 other people are around who could help, especially their older brother/sister. 3rd but not least, mom Hawke casting blame made me want to disband her right there and tell her to try better then.
If they want to bring the guilt/loss thing into their game then they should look at mass effect. What they did in DA2 just reminds me too much of the human noble origin and the sacred ashes guardian where it is suggested you should feel bad about something you couldn't do anything about. It just doesn't work, if anything it upsets people.
In ME you couldn't do anything either, you lost either Kaidan or Ashley, but you made the choice so it was at least partly your 'fault'. You made a decision and you have to live with it. In Dragon Age for some reason you don't get to make these decisions but everyone acts as if you did. That's just ... really annoying.
