There's a new trailer depicting a more emotional sibling death.
I KNOW! I'VE SEEN IT! OMFG I HOPE THAT'S THE FINAL VERSION
WHERE???:o:o
link please!!!!
Hmm I think I've seen that. Hawke falling to his knees or something. That would be pretty cool if they did put a little more into that scene. Not that I'm complaining really.
Yeah I don't know. Something tells me that scene was created just for the trailer. You know, seeing as he picks a mace up and fights a bunch of Qunari right afterwards.

Because he looked like a idiot charging head first in what wasn't necessary. They been dropping darkspawn up until that point but he sees a Ogre and thinks he can just run into him first without Hawke/Bethany?TheMake wrote...
So why do people hate so much on Carver? the sod barely says two or three sentences before he's gone.
Speaking of, I was glad Aveline got pissed when I was telling her to suck it up, much needed rivallry points there. Definitely not romancing that chick. Gotta go with the one with all the junk in the trunk.

About as much as with Trian, or Tamlen, orGorion, for that matter.
Oh, I felt sad over Gorion.
I imagined him looking like Liam Neeson for extra pathos.
I kinda felt sorry for Tamlen too.
But HerpDerp getting squashed? Too funny.

Perhaps the point is not to bring you to wailing tears over the deaths of those characters, but to set up certain things for later, hmm?
If we'd run around here saying "YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO WET YOURSELVES OVER THIS THING WE DO IN THE BEGINNING!" you could happily hoist us on our petard, but we didn't. So our petard remains unhoisted.
That makes sense.

Well after one playthrough one of them is introduced better. And then you probably leave him or her to die to see the other one.packardbell wrote...
We were barely introduced to the characters.. so I don't think Bioware were pinning us to feel sad either.

So some events in Origins which had great impact and still talked about even today, and say a event of a member of your family dieing regradless if you hated them or not later on in the story is treated as "oh opps, lets move on!" Sorry Laidlaw thats such a awfull excuse.
(note i know the poster im quoting only posting what Laidlaw said!)

What they did to correct this was in a later version for the PS1, they had her travel around with you longer, actually allowing you to build a bit of rapport with the character. This created a much more emotional response when she gets kidnapped.
I think even if we're just able to talk to the sibling a bit more, we might feel a bit more rapport and feel a bit more of an emotional response to the situation.
This reminds me a bit of what happened in the beginning of the Noble origins story where your family gets killed. I didn't really feel much since you aren't really obligated to have much of a conversation with them. It wasn't until later after I talked to little Oren a bit that I even felt anything at their death (although it was still a lot less than I would have liked).
I think this is something that Bioware really needs to improve on. You really feel things later in the game after you've built a bond with your companions and it makes those tough choices truly tough, but they often times overlook small chances to actually get an emotional response out of a player when they're supposed to.
Also, the lines were a little too terse and unemotionally delivered during the sibling death scene. Just a couple more well delivered lines could have completely changed the feel of the situation.

Because Bioware couldn't do it better, plain and simple.MorrigansLove wrote...

Could be shock. Guilt and remorse comes after shock of the loss of a loved one, it's common human behaviour.
