i know he's meant to be badass, but this is my biggest worry for DA2 now. I hope that this game hits my emotional core like origins did.

I don't remember Origins ever having such things, it was a great game don't get me wrong but I don't remember anything emotional.. Bioware aren't really great at such things.

haha bioware isnt really great at emotion?  hear that devs....robots are playing your games!

Little emotional connection with the character, we were just introduced to them.

Honestly, I kind of chuckled. Hope the writing in the full game isn't as bad as the writing in the demo.

I really don't get the angst. You're not supposed to feel an emotional connection to a character that dies in the first few minutes. Does that mean they should restrict their storytelling and only kill someone if it's going to bring tears?

No.

THEY'RE YOUR SIBLING! YOUR SIBLING! NOT A RANDOM NPC! IT SHOULD BE SAD!

seriously? not even if alistair left in the landsmeet? or if morrigan finally understands what love is?

Obviously you need to like those characters in the first place. Alistair acts like a whiny prebuscent and Morrigan is your typical heartless witch without any redeeming qualities at all. They did it quite well with JE though.. I really found it hard to bind Death's Hand.

No but when Morrigan left it was. And Duncan's death, but the whole scene was emotional and pretty much the most memorable one from the whole game.

I think more of the point is that we are supposed to feel something but we don't because it was a poorly delivered scene.

Bioware has jumped the shark!

I kid, but seriously, I hope, down to my very core, that this game keeps the emotion intact.

The scene may have had a more emotional impact if it had happened later in the game and if you had actually been given time to get to know Carver and Beth better.

RPGamer13 wrote...

I don't like Carver because he opposes his older sister, he does it at least once in the demo.

He dared to oppose your Hawke? Image IPB

How horrible of him to have a different opinion. I'm downright shocked.

I think that's because no one even cried, or got upset. Hawke just gets a frownie face and goes to beat up the ogre.

And it didn't help that we all KNEW it would happen lol

Emotional ATTACHMENT to certain characters when you're supposed to feel sympathetic. Such things fall flat if the characters aren't very likeable in the first place but obviously that's personal preference.

It basically went like this in my mind.

Okay we're running and running. Oh wait darkspawn! Never mind their dead. Now everyone bicker. Darkspawn! Kill, kill, kill. Bicker some more. Kill again. Save a templar and then quarrel. More darkspawn, and more killing. Hmm Aveline is standing there very femininely for some reason. Oh look, it's an ogre. Damn it, I just got done leveling him/her up. Killed the ogre and get blamed for your sibling's death. WTF, he/she is an adult who can make his/her own decisions, and he/she tried to save your life. Are you saying you'd rather see me dead?

Emotional value placed on dead sibling, close to nill.

for all the flak that JE got for its gameplay and lack of rpg elements (surprising who would say that? Image IPB) it was the most emotionally attache game bioware has made.  I even had emotional attachment to the bad guys!

It's not a case should WE care about the brother/sister dieing, we don't know anything about them, but in the case of Hawke it's his/her brother/sister. Now in real life even if you hated your brother or sister, you would feel sad if they died, even worse if it was something awfull, the fact Hawke showed a didn't care attitude doesn't bod well for Hawke personalty? Voiced works if it fits with the scene, it just didn't.

I don't know about anyone else, but it makes me want to play the game one way, where carver dies, then play again where he lives and see hoe I feel about Bethany's death then, I am sure it will be a different feeling I got from playing the demo.

This could be one of their ploys to get people to play the game more than once

I thought the voice work was great, espically male hawk, I'm extremeley impressed with the males voice this time around.  Woman sounds like she's flirting every second.

it would have been nice if Hawke's voice cracked or vomitted in the bush (favorite reaction to shocking death) instead he was like a robot.

I thought that this game would be the greatest of all time. But maybe not.
