I've downloaded from the main Bioware site and from the appropriate a mirror site, so twice.  Got the same crash issue.

Now just to clears some possible issues.  It takes a while of clicking on the Star Spangled Banner button to get the download started.  But it did download okay on both occasions.

The install was weird.  Open the file and nothing happens for 5 to 10 minutes.  Then a window opens and starts counting at 1%.  Install took about 30 minutes in total.

The game starts. Getting to the grey opening menu screen showing Configuration,  Support, Uninstall menu options on the left and Play on the bottom.  So far, so good.  I click play and see the dragon flying, then a screen with a woman and man looking at each other with the "Press any Key" glowing.

When I press any key, my PC locks up.  I cannot do anything.  ctrl+al+del does not work.  press reset.  I've tried several different configurations from the Configuration menu based on other peopls posts, but to no avail.

Here is my dxdiag:
LOL, I get this meesage about 6 times while opening dxdiag.  "DXdiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing direct 3D the last time this program was used.  Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time?"

Have you updated to the latest Dx9 version and gotten the latest driver for your video card?

If all the drivers are up to date then turn off V-Sync in the game that has resolved similar issues before.
