I might be new to Dragon Age, but my opinion is that this new getting down to the action is better.
As a new player I felt immediately engaged with the story! The ogre made me want to think about how to beat him and learn about what strategies I might employ. Anything that brings people together on the forums talking about a fight is a great thing when it involves strategy at a set difficulty level.
Mostly it feels epic, as I had to learn to bring him down and was finally able to do so after a few tries. The way this game is overall presented is well built. I would think that this game is going to sell like hotcakes this coming month.
It is just amazing. It's like being able to interact with a movie and be part of it, loving it.

First time I played Demo I didn't know I was goign to lose bethany, so she was the AOE DD and Hawk was the main healer... let just say that didn't go very well.
I had to kite the oger half way to the starting position before he was killed.
It's even funnier when you just made Bethany the healer... <_<

You had spent a few hours in the game.
First you did the whole origin story then you went into the wilds for the Joining ritual met up with Morrigan.
Then were sent into the tower to light the beacon thinking it was going to be a simple run up there only to have the darkspawn overrunning the place.
4 or so stories of fighting later and you got this big badass Ogre ready to tear you apart.
Then you have DA2 where he just pops up after 10 minutes of fighting and much easier.
Yeah it worked a lot better in DAO but than again I didn't know about the Ogres till I fought it the first time so it was all fresh and there was no way they could recreate that.

Honeslty I didn't know and reason is simple, I never took one. It is an old habit to rather die than use potions. I am sort of a hoarder. I rather replay a couple of times and not use potions than use one and survive.JamesX wrote...
Strange enough... did you know you cannot constantly chuck potions?AlexXIV wrote...
Well if you find the button for potions she can handle the beating, and solo it ... and you could just kite. There is not really an alternative explaination to those who could not do it even after a couple of tries are really, really bad at it.I tried that and there seems to be a delay between when you can drink potions. (Either that or it was disrupted 3x in a row on both Carver and The Tank Girl). Lost Carver because of it.
i commend you sir!!! i would rather die 100 times than use potions...unless im too tired to care....just saving for the final boss.

Already declaring rogues suck and 2h'der is overpowered.
Tell me, you spend much time on the streets with a sign draped over your shoulders?
In the demo DW rogues do suck compared to 2-hand warrior. It's an objective fact that can be demonstrated. Math does not lie.
They're playable, sure, but not balanced against other classes.

The Ogre looked better in DA. In DA2 it looks like he has down syndrome.
I agree the DAO Ogre looked better. Although I think the DA2 Ogre looks more like a mentally impaired gorilla. Either way mental deficiency is involved.

This is not a proper comparison--in DAO, you would have gone through the Origin, the Korcari Wilds, and then through the Tower of Ishal.
In DAII, you only just reach the end of the Blightlands.
Exactly. The DA2 ogre should have been harder, by that reasoning. Which it wasn't, which is what the OP is about.

Play as a dw rogue and solo it. It's fairly challenging.
DW Rogues are quite pathetic really.
Are you speaking about DA2?
I did solo it and it was not hard, it was even easier than using warrior hawke. Everytime it reached out its hands (maybe to grab or hurl?) it blinked and I wasn't there anymore. I was behind it stabbing away.
Now in the full game and later levels I can't say if they will keep up.
"Fairly challenging"
As opposed to my warrior can take the ogre and all the darkspawn at the same time solo.

Bethany can solo that Ogre without taking any damage or casting any spells. That Ogre is pathetic.Nonoru wrote...
Try playing a mage(without heal), no health potion and come again.

Sure if you just sit 15 ft away and let her auto attack and move out of the way of the boulder and charge.... what's so special about that?

The ogres acted the exact same in both. Aveline litterally soloed it in one of my playthroughs just because I wanted to see if she could as I kept my Hawke and Bethany just killing all the Darkspawn adds.
Conclusion: Normal in DA:2 is at least an order of magnitude easier than it was in DA:O. That said, I don't think we needed the Ogre to see that. Furthermore, it's not like I'm dissing the combat. I fully expect Nightmare to be more difficult.
Aye I have a feeling that friendly fire is going to be quite a pain in the rear.

From my viewpoint the DA:O ogre at normal was slightly tougher than the demo ogre. I saw many complaints last night on the boards saying the demo ogre was too hard.
That DA2 demo Ogre was too hard? Then what are the bosses in BG2: TOB? Impossible madness?

hehe, the problem is the DAO Ogre fits your view of epic more so than the Demo Ogre. If you haven't played DAO yet, might want to pick it up in the bargin bin when you find it there. It might be worth it.
Even better, get the Ultimate edition... EA Store DL for less than 40 bucks... all DLC, DAO, and DAO:A
