 Good Afternoon Folks,

As we investigate each issue raised here for our next patch.  We've investigated the bug of a few users who were not awarded the insanity trophy.

Let me first talk about how we figure out this Trophy.  Effectively when ever you leave the Options Menu if you've changed the difficulty from Insanity we set a flag.  This flag follows you in your save game.  At the end of the game we check to see if that flag is set and/or if you are on insanity.  If the flag was never set and you're set to insanity difficulty we award you the Trophy.

So the bug happens if before you start the game for the first time, you open the options menu and look at the the difficulty to anything (except insanity) then start a new game and change the difficulty to insanity the flag is erroniously set and follows you into your new play session.  This was very difficult for us to nail down, obviously, as changing the difficulty to Insanity works. :)

We are fixing this in the next patch, that we are working on now but the work around is very easy, simply do not open the options menu between when you start the console and when you start your new game and change the difficulty when prompted before the Prologue.

Thanks everyone.

-Jess

Glad to hear a new patch is in the works. Can you give us any info on any other bugs that are going to be fixed in the next patch?

So by default, we're not able to comment one what we plan to patch and what we can't. The reason being that let's say I tell you about a fix to something today that we are working on, but then it turns out that it breaks something or is too complex to fix safely or I get hit by a bus tomorrow etc... Then if we don't fix it, you guys and gals would have every right to feel slighted even though the intention is one of honesty and openness in development.

At any rate! I'm working with Chris and some other folks on finding the best middle ground, where I (and others) can tell you about the stuff we are working while providing enough context to inform you of why something may or may not make it into a patch/the game/my lunch :) At the same time all balancing the requirements that the SEC has on public communication protocols outside of press releases.

Ohh what a tangled web we weave :)

-Jess

Hi Jesse, I know that you're busy so may not reply but just hoping if someone could confirm it for me:

Situation (i): before starting a new game I go to Options and see that the difficulty is set to something BELOW Insanity, and leave Options without changing anything, and then when prompted before the Prologue I set the difficulty to Insanity.

Situation (ii): before starting a new game I go to Options and see that the difficulty is set to something BELOW Insanity, change it to Insanity before leaving Options, then when prompted before the Prologue maintain the difficulty at Insanity.

Situation (i): trophy glitched;
Situation (ii): trophy pops.

Can someone please confirm the above?

On 360, I just change the difficulty when prompted after starting the game. Always works.

No, in both instances you are not guaranteed to get the trophy according to Jesse anyway.

He specifically said: "We are fixing this in the next patch, that we are working on now but the work around is very easy, simply do not open the options menu between when you start the console and when you start your new game and change the difficulty when prompted before the Prologue."

That means don't enter the options menu at all, and just start a new game. When it prompts you what difficulty to choose, choose insanity. Trophy will ping.

Basically the flag is set when you leave the screen where you set the difficulty. So if you roll the difficulty around but end on insanity before leaving you're okay. That said as maneorix said, the safest bet is to not change the difficulty for the time being in the main menu.

Thanks Jess for clearing that up. That's what I thought what you had been explaining in your earlier post. Looking forward to the DLC.

Hi Jesse, I was just wondering if you could tell me if you think it's safe for me to go on.

If I remember correctly, what I did was turn my system on, then in turn I loaded up my two different save files and turned the difficulty to Insanity on each (they were on either casual or normal before). Then I started a new game and set the difficulty to insanity (or left it on insanity if it already was set to it) then continued playing without changing the difficulty.

Do you think the flag will be set or not?

Thanks

I imagine it would be. But I of course can't be certain as I didn't watch you go through the new game flow :(

Well I guess I'll start again then. Thanks for the info anyway.

At least I'll only lose about ten hours play rather than thirty-five.

Thank you for your time, Jesse! I've had it set to Insanity in the main menu options already. I should be able to just boot the console, go to new game and maintain Insanity when the prompt comes up without touching the main menu options.

Jesse - Any ideas on the bypass safe/door freeze others and I are experiencing? I have not received a single response in the past month on this issue. I opened a thread a few days ago and have only received responses from someone else with the same problem.

Jesse.  I don't know what to say...  Let me try.  I played and beat the ENTIRE game on insanity.  No trophy.  Whether I set the bloody difficulty at the main menu or AFTER the prologue shouldn't matter.  The patch should address BOTH avenues regardless of what the player does.  Bioware made this mess and it shouldn't matter which pile of crap the player steps in... Bioware should clean it.  Now.

i finished my insanity playthru with the trophy, luckily. all i did was change the difficulty at the start of a new game and never touched it ever, till i finished my 35+ hours of torture from me2's mobs.hope this helps.

it felt good having the trophy pop up, as it was a journey filled with many, many reloads. i can understand why people are super angry at this glitch, as it would kinda suck to go thru insanity again.

currently me2 is sitting in the shelf tho, many good games are coming, including da2.

I have pumped more than 100 hours in and I want the damned patch. Who cares when I adjusted the damned difficulty? Whether you do it at the main menu or after the prologue SHOULDN'T MATTER. Bioware needs to stop counting their millions from sales and release this patch asap.

So in order to be safe, would the best thing to do before starting be to - Go into my first career, set the difficulty to insanity, then quit to the main menu, go to extras, options, gameplay and change it to insanity there. Then quit to the XMB (do we really have to turn the system off?) then restart the game and go start to new game?

You know, Bioware DON'T have to do this patch, so how about you show a little appreciation that they're actually patching this up instead of moving on to mass effect 3 or something. God I hate ignorant fans.

Bit of a silly question here but what I've done is I just started a game on insanity and I'm just about to do the Freedom's Progress mission, what I want to know is: Is it okay to check the options to see if I'm on insanity? It won't mess up the trophy will it? Because I want to be absolutely sure that I'm on insanity and not on hardcore by accident..

Thanks

At least I know now what happened in my game.  I knew I had set it to insanity before I selected new game.  I think it was set to "casual" as default and I changed it to "insanity" and never looked back until post game when I didn't get the trophy.  At that point I checked it and it still read "insanity."

I wonder, if the patch fixes the flag error will I just have to replay from any save before I completed the suicide mission for the trophy to count or would have have to replay the entire game?

Awesome to hear you guys are working a new patch and I hope that you fix the New Game+ glitch the one where it says that you are supposed to receive all your heavy weapons but you don't you lose them all. Oh and one more thing the loading times on the Normandy are a bit long as well hopefully you can fix both those issues.

Let me descrive what I did that worked for me...
I set the dificulty to insane before starting a new game, when I did started the new game the insane dificulty was already selected and I went through the game without touching it. Note that I did change to other (careers) walkthroughs that had diferent dificulty setting and played them while I still hadn't finished the insanity playthrough and that still didn't affect me getting the insanity trophy at the end.
I guess as long as you don't touch the dificulty setting for the insanity playthrough after starting it it's ok to switch back and forth between careers.
