I recommend building Aveline with either 1str 2 con per level, or 3 con. Especially if you are going to play nightmare and plan to use her bodyguard talents.

Maybe it was just me, but in the demo, Aveline was constantly running empty on stamina. Probably need to put a few points into willpower for her or at the very least, stack her with some +stam and +regen items.

Right. Because if you dislike how your PC feels weak and doesn't have a
niche, it means you want to play a stupidly OP class that makes other
classes redundant. There's no middle ground at all.

See, I knew you would come around; and hey, added bonus, once you become an Arcane Warrior then other people can be jealous of all your power.

When I play a two-handed warrior, I feel as though I'm being punished for not playing the right class.

If I wanted to tank, I should have picked sword and shield. If I wanted single-target DPS and CC, I should have played a rogue. If I wanted AOE damage and good CC and support, I should have played a mage.

That's your problem. You expect what is not to be expected. Anyone who's played D&D, CRPGs & MMOs will tell you a warrior is not meant to be a damage dealer. Mages and Rogues are the DPS. You have these expectations to think a two hander should survive as much as a shield warrior and should out damage a rogue? lol.  Punished for not playing the right class? There IS no right class unless you are a min/max munchkin

A two handed warrior reduces his chances of survival and defense for a bit more damage that's it. and quite frankly that's what the demo shows to be true.

She can speak for herself, but I'm pretty sure Maria has played all of those. I have, and the reference is irrelevant (and inaccurate to boot). It doesn't matter what a 2h warrior is supposed to be in WoW, only what it is supposed to be in DA--and that seems to be a tough damage dealer that is good at killing crowds.

To me, that seemed to be a fundimental problem with W/S in DA. My W/S tanks would constantly run out of stamina and wouldn't be able to taunt again when it'd come off of cooldown to keep aggro on it. My 2H tanks, I'd give them nug crusher and warden commanders armor to start off with and then switch to chasind great maul and wades supieror dragonscale armor later on with indomitable running and they'd far out preform the W/S tanks. Stamina didn't run out nearly as easily, they could actually kill what they engaged to help reduce incomming dps, and the biggest bonus was that indomitable kept them from being knocked down or stunned which kept the aggro on them much easier.

It could be different in DA2 once the game gets going and maybe different equips for Aveline and W/S Hawke's though. Just can't say right now to be fair but as in the demo, it did seem like Aveline had stamina issues while I didn't see Carver have as many and I know my 2H warrior didn't.
