Somebody else actually has the problem! This must be fixed!

I know this sounds silly, but are you sure your video card/chipset is direct x 9 compatible?

It's already been asked and answered, both in here and in the DAO Tech forum. Check the archives, but use either Google or Yahoo (or "Bing", I suppose), don't wast effort on the broken bad excuse for a search that is offered on site. You'll need a site: redirector for greatest efficiency.
Note: I'm not sure that the Wide Screen vs. normal screen dichotomy is mentioned in every single thread all across the Social Forums, like the broken graphics links for otherwise acceptable graphics cards is, after I searched them all out to add that edit. If you set the "wrong" screen ratio, this will confuse the DA function, in both DAO and in the new Demo (we have yet to learn about this in DA2 itself, of course).

Since directX 9 is installed I would assume so.

I just found the other topics. Looks like I'm screwed without a new graphics card.

No. That's a bad assumption. You could have a video card that predated Dx9, such as a Geforce GF4 Ti-4200, or a radeon 8500, and Dx9 could be installed, whether your card could respond to all of Dx9's function calls or not (and a majority of Intel Chipset video chips from 1996 to 2009 would fail the tests as well). Those, of course, are extremes. More usually, a great majority of video devices tend to just be way too slow to be usable.Ryukoshu wrote...

Presupposing that your machine is a desktop, that would be the answer for some Low End video device. Laptops are now produced as disposable appliances, with no provision to upgrade anything other than main memory and long-term storage drives. If your laptop isn't good enough, you have to replace the entire thing.Ryukoshu wrote...

I have the same problem as this. I'm guessing an ATI Radeon X850 card is out-dated?
If it is, then do I need to get a newer video card?(Yet another thing I need to upgrade.....fml)

It was already limited by its incomplete functionality in Dx9 for DAO, in which it was restricted to the small texture files, because it can only handle Dx9.0"b" with the first notch's worth of SM-3 shaders, although not the complete set, so the natural progression has occurred, and yes, it is now six years old, so it is "too old".The Fifth Horseman wrote...

The official minimum is the Radeon HD 2600 Pro, but as usual, Bioware is mixing things up with their video requirements, naming the five year old Geforce 7900 GS, a borderline card of its day, in between Mainline and High End, versus the four year old Mainline Radeon, which is actually more equivalent in speed to the Geforce 7800 GS, instead of the Radeon X1800 Pro card, or the HD 2600 "XT".
You can't buy any of those new any more, so you have to move up the generational steps to something that you can buy, such as an HD 4770 or an HD 5670.
