If I was trying to get a rise out of people, I wouldn't come here despite how easy it apparently is. My "vitriolic diatribe" did not come to nearly the degree of condescention your choice of words would appear to indicate, and if it came across as such, I guess I can do nothing but apologize, or ask you not to take it so seriously, or take statements such as his so literally. I doubt anyone thinks she is literally a prostitute.

The person I quoted obviously does, unless he's lying. I'm not prone to second-guess people on the internet though.

He's more insinuating that if there were such thing as a dirty, pirate hooker, Isabella would pretty well fit the bill in the looks department.

Now we're debating over what this guy meant. Oh, internet.

People constantly underestimate how big real women's boobs are compared to fictive women. It's wierd that flat chested women in videogames and comics are percieved as realistic even if their legs make up two thirds of their length or they have giant heads, but if the same character has a large bosom, everyone has to comment on how unrealistic it is. Guess what, there are lots of girls with large breasts and they are getting more numerous each year. What they need to do instead of making everyone flat chested is to fill out the models around the waist and hips as well :P.

Agreed. Something tells me the main reason that people complain about women with big chests in video games is because of some sort of inferiorty complex, maybe...chest envy? :?

Maybe, but I don't think that's the main reason. I think people get offended by large breasted characters in video games, and rightly so. Though it's not right to be offended because of the large breasts themselves. Rather the fault lies in how they are always a sexual symbol. Nobody would create a female character with large breasts without the intention of exploiting it in some way.

Having said that, the people protesting large breasted characters in videogames often do so in a way that makes it seem like being a girl and having big boobs is a crime, or something that simply doesn't exist without surgery. That's almost as bad as what the game makers are doing.

Game developers can either ignore what's politicaly correct and exploit stereotypes all they can (which can be fun or tacky depending on how well it's done), or they can make everyone look the same, without any offensive, protruting parts in their anatomy. Or, a novel thought, they could create characters with different physical characteristics and only connect those characteristics with the personality of the character as much as logic requires and no more.

People are way to sensitive about these things in my mind: In video games,in the music industry as well as in movies main characters in general look good and are above average on most parameters.

Ergo: You will find more muscles, straight jaws, good looking faces, proportionate bodies and large breasts than what is normal. It is not about sexism - it is platonic views about physical appereance. And these views are expressed in all media all over the place.

Not the best comparison due to differences in the perspective of the images and my crappy use of paint, but whatever.

Actually, I might even swap out Anders for Isabella if I find having 2 mages being a bit redundant. Seeings how Varric is more inclined towards ranged, then Fenris would be my only melee man. So I could have either

Male Hawk Combat Mage

Anders Healing Mage

Varric Ranged Rogue

Fenris Tank Warrior

or

Male Hawk Healing Mage

Isabella Melee Rogue

Varric Ranged Rogue

Fenris Tanking Warrior

I'm still debating.

For certain she was based on Salma Hayek. Not only does she look strikingly like her but the connections are apparent.

Isabela's recruitment quest is called Fools Rush In: http://dragonage.wik...i/Fools_Rush_In

Salma Hayek starred in a movie also called Fools Rush In...and her character in that movie was called Isabel: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119141/

;)

Thanks Myrmedus, I think that's pretty clear there. I get the feeling this thread was trying to ferret out how close Hayak was used a model. In Dragon Age: Origins, Morrigan and Leliana character models were based on nude models.

I don't think the artists hired Hayak away from her busy schedule, but Dragon Age II's Isabela was definitely inspired by Salma Hayak.

I've always loved Salma.
Her marrying a french guy who then goes and knocks up Linda Evangelista, not so good.
I preferred the DAO Isabela quite frankly.
