When I tossed fireballs into melee in the demo, party members were not hurt. This is a good thing, because otherwise it's a bit difficult to predict where the mobs will be when the spell finally goes off.

Mind, the demo is locked to Normal difficulty. Friendly Fire may be possible at higher difficulty levels. Also, the specific spells available may be those that don't have Friendly Fire as a modifier.

Friendly fire is only active on Nightmare mode in DA2.

Friendly Fire only at Nightmare difficulty (so far probably the only decision about DA2 I have a real problem with).

i guess we will have to be more tactical on where we throw our spells in higher difficulties but its ok with me and more challenging of course

Nope, it's Nightmare or no FF at all unless they changed their minds. I think it's a bad idea but can't say I'm surprised.

Why would you want friendly fire? Why would you want to harm your own party members? I just don't see any benefit.

Because having a fireball detonate right on top of your tank and it not hurting the tank because of... magic? isn't realistic :P

Basically its a way to have an extra challenge.

You can probably tweak an ini file after release to get FF on all dificulties.

I hope it'll be an option not affected by difficulty or at least available at normal and higher, 'cause, man no FF sucks like a "beach" and makes game nobrain-point-and-klick

friendly fire just encourages you to not have an offensive mage. It makes no sense at all

Just play it on Nightmare... If i'm not wrong Nightmare will be equal to Hard in difficulty but they will put Friendly Fire on. B)

I thought I heard one of the Developers say that FF would be active in difficulty levels from hard upwards.  Will have to look at some of the previews again.

In a way I am grateful though since in DAO on PC I pretty much never used AOE magic since Non player controlled party members just seemed to gravitate into that and get themselves killed, even with tactics set it was like "Hey that area is set on fire... Lets go stand in it".

Or you could just make it a point to fight tactically.  You know, on purpose.

because its means its a bit harder and you have to think  a bit , also makes other spells more useful and not just AOE spell spam and goodnight darkspawn.

I would like a FF on/off option for all modes . Be dissapionting if hard mode didnt have FF . On console for DAO i sed to pretend FF was on and just not fire my AOE's into my own party , might have to do that again.

no way . You just be a bit more careful , my offensive mage in DAO did fine with FF on . It makes your mage more intresting because AOe isnt always the best spell to use.

Sadly, unless you're micromanaging every aspect of every character all the time, friendly fire is more of a hindrance than a help, especially given the new, faster AI movement in combat.
