Help! I initially got the 'error mentioning d3dx9_43.dll' error but followed the instructions to install the Direct X and was so HAPPY when the DA dragon video came on. I was ready to kick butt, the music played, and the screen loaded to that gray background of two warriors that said Press Any Key...

So I did. And then nothing happened. Okay I waited, and nothing happened. I pressed escape, then alt-tab, then ctr-alt-delete and nothing happened. The music was still playing but no game. I restarted my laptop, tried again, and still stuck.

ARGH! So close and yet so far! My machine is Windows XP, Nvidia 8600M GT, Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, 2GB Ram. Does this mean I cannot play DA2? SOB :`(

It happened to me as well. If you wait long enough and repeatedly press enter it eventually loads up. It took about 11 minutes before mine changed to the actual game play window. It may have something to do with the game.exe trying to establish a connection with the bioware servers. Fire it up and leave it for 10 - 15 minutes - grab a cuppa coffee and chill. By the way I have much the same hardware specs that you have and it works for me.

That press any key screen accepts mouse clicks as "any key". Don't know if that helps but you might want to try it.

Well, It shouldn't take that long .. I haven't had that problem .. try to fire up the config tool and go to "Repair" and press the "Add Firewall Exception" ... not that I am sure that will help you with the problem .. but at least it will fix most connection issues. Else try to set graphics lvl to medium or low render to DX9

I actually pressed each key, waited a minute, then tried rebooting my computer. The second time I tried again, I left it to see if it would eventually run...for TWO hours.

Nothing :(

Music still played though?

Hooray! The helpful Customer Support people told me I needed to delete items in the temp folder, I fiddled around a bit, and it worked!

Ah, bliss.

Everything in the Temp folder.  (For the uninitiated: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/where-is-the-temporary-folder/44a039a5-45ba-48dd-84db-fd700e54fd56 )
