Can't play in DX11?

Posté 24 février 2011 - 08:39
Here are my specs -
CPU: Intel® Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
RAM: 7.0 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 2 (build 6002), 64-bit
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5600 Series (DX11 compatible)
Am am I wrong in the assumption that I should be able to run the demo with DX11? Or has the ability to select the option been purposely left out of the demo?

However there are some dx11 screenies out there and it looks very nice.

It was about those who claimed to have ran the demo in D11X, and my usual taking things to the extreme.

It hasnt been disabled...they advise against playing in dx 11 due to known issues with the demo that are fixed in the final game...like I said...personally I have had no problems with it...though i cant go above medium settings without getting laggy....hopefully the final version will be optimixed better

So, not only are you SOL, but you're now experiencing what people who refused to upgrade to Windows Vista from WinXP went through.
PS: I can play in DirectX 11, so yay. No bugs even!

If you want to check it out, use the configuration app instead of the in-game options.

(PC) DirectX 11 is not supported in the demo.
It's entirely possible that you being unable to choose DX11 mode is yet another demo bug.
The game runs fine for me on the highest DX11 settings, although the cutscenes get a bit choppy... but, yeah, it's recommended that we all ignore the DX11 mode in the demo.

Oh right, Service Pack 2.Laiin wrote...
Mordaedil you are wrong. Vista has supported Dx11 since October 2009.

God-dammit, this site I use for this sort of reference splits that as its own OS, how stupid is that.

You have to look closely at how Rob Bartel worded his announcement. They offer no official Tech Support for it, because at the time the code for the Demo was finalized. Dx11 was still too unstable.Sarkus wrote...

Actually, while I also avoided Vista while it was being promoted, I am certain that I've read, both when the SP was released, and more recently, that SP 2 either included Dx11, or else at least made Vista ready to accept Dx11 as well as Win 7 does.Mordaedil wrote...
DirectX 11 is also a Windows 7-only feature. DirectX 10 is shared by Vista and 7. DirectX 9 is shared by XP and earlier platforms, I believe.
As stated, I never wanted Vista, so I don't KNOW whether Dx11 was ever part of SP2, or if it had to be added later, and right through now, I don't think anyone ever asked Skorpius whether he had Dx11 installed yet.
Now that those two things are handled, I have read several times and places that Dx11 functions can be so very demanding that only High End graphics should be used for it. A Radeon HD 5670 is a middle of the pack Mainline graphics card, not High End, so the Demo's configuration will (apparently, if the OP author's situation is not unique, and he really does have Dx11 installed) lock out the less efficient Mainline cards like 5670s, rather than allow people to try running Dx11, and then complain about how slowly it runs.

I can select it and see some major graphical differences, like cloud shadows. However, because of my poor hardware and how unstable the DX11 features are, my framerate is very low (around 12 fps).Captain Iglo wrote...

Very High which will have DX11 exlusive features like tessellation, is disabled in the demo.

DX11 works just fine and IS selectable, but you MUST have a TRUE DX11 card! If you only have a DX10 card, you can choose DX11 mode, but MANY of the adv features in the demo are disabled. I'm running an nvidia 580 with the most current drivers and DX11 mode and all the adv features show... I can easily post a screen shot of me with DX11 mode on...

It worked but resulted in horrible FPS. Like 5 or 6...... My computer should be more than able to completely max the game, guess its just an old build that was released for the demo and they hadn't fully sorted the DX11 features yet.

I put some descriptions in ()'s. You can FORCE the demo into using them. They won't show in the options because the devs blocked access to them, but you CAN force the game engine to turn them on and use them.. just be ready for a HUUUUGE performance hit unless you have a beast of a GPU(s)
