I didn't like Bethany from the 5 minutes I've spent with her, I'm much more interested in the little brother dynamic. And I am attached to the idea of being a mage, you can't pry that boomstick from these fingers!

Considering the mage will be my 3rd playthrough, I'll probably be more willing to put up with Carver for the slightly different dialogue.

I'm definitely still playing a mage. And the tension with Carver will make it even better.



Although, after I read dead Bethany's codex about her admiring Hawke's love of magic and then being best friends and whatever, I felt a little sad. Eh, she'll be in my rogue and warrior playthroughs.

I don't get all the love for Bethany, & the hate for Carver.
All Bethany did was whine, & have breasts, when it comes to breasts there's also Floozy the Pirate, the little elf girl, & Aveline.
And honestly both of the other mages seem better than Bethany.
Just/ers, & Merril both have a place in my party..

Carver actually had things to say. 
He was more useful in combat, & from what I've seen of Fenris, Carver's the cooler two-hander.
He's got better threads too.
Also, the man's biceps could shatter the timestream.

No, I'm playing a mage no matter what. In fact in this game, with no choice of origin, it will be hard to play anything else. Sorry Bethany.

I understand - I like Bethany better than Carver too, so far, but I really love playing a mage so eventually I will have to watch poor Bethany get smashed.  But, I do have some interest in exploring a rivalry with Carver, and it does seem like a promising alternative

I love playing as a rogue and the fact that Carver will die when I play as one isn't going to change that.

To be honest I don't like the fact that Bethany survives when I plas as a rogue, I don't like her, I mean I like her character but her voice sounds really annoying. x.x

We've spent all of an hour with these characters, during which they said all of about 10 words each. I have no idea how people can be making judgments on who they like yet.

That said I'm still undecided on whether to play a rogue or mage. It will likely come down to a coin toss, though I am leaning toward mage, as I like flinging fire at stuff. But as I am planning at two and more likely four or five playthroughs, I'll probably have had my fill of both of them by the time I done.

Yeah I was definitely pissed when I saw Bethany die when I picked mage. I love playing mage, but I like Bethany and I just don't like Carver. Don't know what it is but from the first time he opened his mouth, I just haven't liked him. Successful rivalry attempt, I guess. I know when I do eventually play mage, Carver's out of my party at first opportunity, though.

Probably be a while before I play a mage, didn't mind seeing Carver bite the dust, but it would hurt to see Hawke's sister go

I liked Carver a lot in the demo. From the little bit I saw of him, I got the impression that he might be the only person in the family with the balls to call out his older sibling. But we'll never know until we try the full game.



Poor Bethany. I always play mages, so she'll be first to bite the dust.

This is completely unfair... they aren't targeting a single gender here.  Carver dies if you pick Warrior AND Rogue.  2 to 1 odds that he dies, and that's okay?

My point was if you play a mage it simply plays out in the most tired way possible, that's all.

I really didn't want to play a mage, but now I am seriously thinking about it, because Carver and the sibling rivalry intrigue me. I want to know what happens storywise. I'm torn!

I will play a mage, since that is always the class, I have the most fun with in any fantasy game and the story seems to evolve around a "Hawke mage", so that might as well be my Hawke.

I really want Bethany over Carver my first time through but I was initially planning on rolling a warrior anyways, and that has changed to rogue now. If I had really wanted to go mage I would have regardless, but I think Bethany will be all the mage I need. =)

This choice by Bioware has actually left me rather conflicted and I plan to show that conflict in the characterization of my mage.

Surprisingly, I find the jealous brother to be a more interesting prospect, I've been grappling about the fact I usually play a warrior, but I really want to see more of Carver, perhaps I must play a mage?
