Since installing and attempting to play the Dragon Age 2 demo my PC crashed and immediately started experienceing serious graphical artifacts, to the point where if i start windows i can't even tell if it is working or not. The anomalies also are present outside windows, i managed to get into windows in safe mode and after some struggling completely removed my graphics drivers, after re installing the issues returned. I have also done system restores and scanned windows for corrupt files. now i can't even get my windows to boot in safe mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated especially if it doesn't require a format.

Any h

..I don't believe the demo has the capability to do that kind of damage.

I would say it was something to do with the System Restore botching something.

Grab your Windows DVD and boot from disc and do a repair.

Software can't cause hardware failure but bad cooling can if you are running a current-gen video game. What did the graphical artifacts look like? If they're green dots it means your graphics card is dead.

Sounds like graphics card died. Do you overclock?

And you know, it could have been any 3d intensive graphics application...

Sounds like your graphic card died. It's just a coincidence, nobody else has reported stuff like that

hey guys i don't overclock at all. My card is a 4890.

the game crashed before i was able to do anything, during the intro movies, after i was booted to the desktop i had an error about a graphics driver and that windows had recovered except large parts of my screen had solid blocks of various colours with noise on them.

Have you looked inside computer case? A lot of dust can cause overheating. Overheating kills cards.

I hope it isn't so, but this really sounds that your graphics card is gone.

my case has a tranparent side. It is quite cool today it seems wierd that my card would die now, my case is also relatively dust free internally. I guess i will try a different graphics card then a system restore.

Temperature is the worst enemy known to any components.

Would recommend trying to swap the card and see if there's a difference.

Yay I did have a similar issue once last year, in my case it did turn out that my graphics card died.  After swapping it out with a new one everything was resolved.

Are the anomalities present immediately after starting your computer (that is, before Windows has a chance to load)? If so it's a hardware problem. Something very similar happened to me when playing Fallout: New Vegas last year, and it turned out my graphics card simply happened to pick that moment to die. It happens.

Try cleaning out the video card heatsink and the rest of your PC with some compressed air. Pick up a can and go to town. Make sure to hold down the fans with your hand before letting loose on them, or you might damage them.

After cleaning, I would re-set my GPU. Remove it, make sure the contacts are clean and then place it back in it's slot.

Hopefully you'll be good then, otherwise yeah, dead hardware.
