Why couldn't you just pursue a different game series?

(Insert haughty voice)
What has happened to BioWare? I recently played the demo and upon doing so, I was most discouraged. I was unable to keep up with the speed of the combat which indubitably means that it has been dumbed down (have to insert key phrases). Furthermore, while I have no experience in game production myself, my 30+ years of gaming have made me an obvious expert at making successful games and it is quite obvious that this will not be a successful game. Not that it should be mind you as high sales numbers invariably mean that the game has been made for the lowest common denominator (remember key phrases) and would not be worthy of my time.
In summation, I believe that this game is utter garbage based on my 30 minute demo playthrough. I shall be canceling my pre-order post haste and surely, I will be only one of the millions of betrayed RPG fans who will be doing the same. My palette will only be reserved for the truly mature fare, such as the Witcher. In the mean time, I will make the entirely reasonable request of having BioWare refund my pre-order forthwith. What's that? They aren't selling me the game? Oh you poor simpleton! When we intellectuals make our demands, we get them without question!
Sincerely,
Tooly McToolbag

Let's see... I don't like how the gameplay looks like, thats my opinion atleast, but Skyrim's story sounds and looks nice, did I come up and said enyone who likes this is retarded or stupid? and I'm sure I'm going to play this game because it obviously has a good story and many RPG elemants, because I don't care for gameplay or combat as long as the game has a good enough story.
Lets see...I insulted no one for liking this, not like others...

The issue I have is the camera on PC, playing the demo has just shown how much they've gimped it for no reason. I played 90% of origins in top down view and now I can't even disconnect the camera from the character I'm controlling. It's hideously locked in and a pain to fight with in combat. The game doesnt' work as a tactical rpg like that so they basically have made an action game :/
No, they made an RPG where top-down view is disabled. All other functionality is still there.

I've played origins withought the top-down camera and I still find it as a tactical RPG.

This was my thought after playing the demo as well, this is NOT the same setting as DA:O. First of all everyone turned into a ninja, the darkspawn turned into something completely different, Flemeth now looks like a generic boss from the Final Fantasy games and yeah they pretty much changed the entire feel of the world. Which would be a lot more understandable if they upgraded their graphics engine or something but no, they just felt like starting over instead of improving what they had already worked on.
Actually, from what I understand it is the same engine but upgraded.

Well apparently no top down view makes it an action game i must have missed the point in the demo where it started to feel like i was playing mass effect or as another poster said (hilariously) dynasty warriors felt like i was playing dragon age to me but i guess i'm blind stupid oh and crazyElsariel wrote...

We could use a camera mod. Enemies pop up in front of the battlefield and lots in back...behind my poor mage. I need a better view. Please modding gods make it so.

As for been more action oriented. I disagree with that, the controls are the same as the first game the difference is that the characters are more responsive as in little to no shuffling going on. Personally i think thats a good thing.

That's my point, if they kept the engine they should've worked on improving what was already there instead of trying to remake the game.

It's anything but a quick cash-in. Whether you like the new direction or not, they've put a lot of time, money and effort into it.
Btw - I loved the new Star Trek too!

I think some of the criticism from the original poster is just unreasonable th graphics are better, That is purely a technical thing and can actually be measured.

I agree on the combat action oriented controls; it feels so much better because it's more responsive and plus it's optional to repeatedly click the button to fight if one perfers to.

It makes no sense what so ever.
The graphics are measurably better than DA:O. The thing is that DA2 is more stylised - and, yes, it has a more comic book/cartoon based style - but I happen to think it is a very attractive one that makes DA2 stand out. Now when you see a shot it is unmistakable that the game is DA2. The first Dragon Age looks generic in comparison.
The gameplay is exactly the same as DA:O except for auto attack. And as for the "anime" combat (what does that even mean?) Take a look at the Sacred Ashes trailer for DA:O - it seems to me that originally the combat was intended to be more like it is in DA2.
All in all - I think BW have done an excellent job and I can't wait for the game. I reckon it's going to be awesome.

What astounds me is that Bioware has been upfront all along, and we've known what the game looks and plays like for *months!* So why all the complaints now?

I can only answer for myself but i don't look much at teasers or read a lot about games before i can try them myself, or at least until just before release. I was expecting it to be more like the previous game which should be understandable since it's actually a sequal and not a completely new game. I guess i should've suspected something after having played ME2, but i didn't and now i know better.

I never would have guessed, even after playing the demo myself, and finding out the combat is the EXACT SAME only FASTER and MORE FLUID than in DA:O. Bioware took the combat in origins and improved upon it. It's the exact same combat except you don't have to wait a year between fights because of how slow things are.
And the streamlined dialog options! Oh my god! How dare they take 10+ dialog trees, 7 of which lead to three different outcomes, and the tone of which aren't even commented upon and turn it into the three dialog options that the game recognizes!
And the graphics!....Well, if you absolutely cannot stand a game with the letter two at the end of it unless it has superior graphics in every way to the original, then there's nothing we can do for you.

To answer the question of the OP. What would Bioware pursuing a different game series even do for you?. Are you under the impression that it would have been your dream game come true if it wouldnt have had the title Dragon Age on it?. That somehow, Bioware wouldn't have gone in the same direction with "that" game as they have with DA2?. That makes absolutely no sense. These guys are game designers. Artists. They want to push forward and try new things. Improve upon formulas they created. A new game title wouldnt change the fact that its you with the problem, not Bioware. Just sayin.
Allow me to laugh at your noble thoughts of bioware, they just want to make money. Artists? They just copied everything from ME2, and just as in that game focused all their efforts on making the combat "cooler" and more fast paced completely abondoning their roots.
