I really hate when developers take a beloved game and decide to make a sequel that feels like a cheap cashing in of the original.  This is one of those instances.

I mean why would you create a sequel with inferior graphics to the original?  What is the reasoning for that?  Why take a game with strong RPG elements, and make a sequel that plays out more like an action game?  It's like how Paramount tried to make Star Trek cool again by making Kirk a 20-something and skipping all the dialog that makes it a space opera.

When you try to "mainstream" a series that didn't start as mainstream, then you just lose the people who really loved the original; and the mainstream won't touch it, because they relate the sequel to the original game that they never considered playing.

Couldn't you have just made this game and given it a different title, with no lore references to Dragon Age?

If you're not willing to put in the time to make a sequel that lives up to its predecessor (and don't pretend this is an attempt to do just that), then please just move on to a different project.

Since when was Dragon Age not mainstream?

When someone decided it was an old school rpg.

It can't be both...?

RPG means different things to different people.

RPG is easy thing, it can't mean different.
Role playing is playing a role. You invent the character and put him/her in story or game world.
The more options in inventing your character game gives, and more often it responds to how you invented him and how he acts, the closer to RPG concept game is. It's the only thing how an RPG can actually be judjed by as RPG, not just a game with character/characters, choices, story, graphics, ect. DA:O had more of character invention, thus it excel as RPG. Troika games, however, had even more of that - like playing dumb character, or ugly, or psychopat - thus exceling Bioware, ect. However this approach is really difficult and CRPGs try to avoid PnP difficulties.

I'm with you man, 110%.  It's just like Mass Effect.  BioWare really dropped the ball on that one.  Tried to streamline a perfect game to give it higher quality and a wider appeal, but it just didn't work.  It fell flat on its face with the mainstream.  Nobody bought it, and those few lost souls who did hated it.  They should've left well enough alone.

Or something like that.

... I bought ME1, stopped playing couple hours in, I didn't buy a game where i'd be forced into a tank to drive around kill some geth, and turrets. To later experience the RPG elements. I got Mass effect 2, and played through the whole thing, it was far more interesting, and kept me wanting more as to ME1, tried playing ME1 again so i could import a save to ME2, but I just couldn't do it.

ME2 was also a top seller on Steam and D2D, and retailers. It also has better reviews then ME1. As for DA2 having inferior graphics, your first screen is to small to really look at any real detail, if you look at the 1 for DA2, you can notice the pours in the skin, and how rough the skin looks, like in DA:O the skin looks smoothed and stretched like it's perfect muscle. Instead he has rough skin, and a little flabby, which makes for better detail I think.

That's just my opinion though :/.

Then I must have a concussion, because I would rather a franchise be laid to rest, than hastily continued as a shadow of its former self.  Sonic the Hedgehog anyone?  Tomb Raider?

Why do the pro da2 people keep telling people to "cry alone" "whine" or tell them they have been hit too many times in the head

Why cant people be allowed to have an opinion without the personal insults?

I can like DA2 less then DAO for any reason, post that reason here with in the confines of the rules and that should be that, why must the hardcore defenders mock others opinions when no one mocks their opinions with personal insults

In your opinion.

Sorry thats a bs answer on my part and you can usually answer that way and be right most of the time.

To some people and RPG is just Role Playing. Just because dungeons and dragons said you get to create your character doesn't make it right.

To some people who are maybe less creative or imaginative maybe playing a role thats better than they could have created or thought up is better.

Role Playing at its base is just that; playing a role. If that role is created by your or someone else is a different point entirely. A video game can never be a roleplaying game by a lot of peoples standards because the game creators cannot possible know what you are going to say, how you feel or how you are going to react to every situation. By you I mean everyone playing it. So they can never create a game for just you and your character.

Dragon Age origins gave you choices, but it was still controlled choices in a controlled manner. I'm not saying what Dragon Age 2 is better, but I am also not saying its worse either.

they deserve some respect.

The majority of haters come off as condescending ***holes, and insult everyone who likes the game.
There are people who like the game who do the same thing, of course, but don't try to pretend otherwise.

There is nothing wrong with liking or not liking this game. And people who acttack either sides are a bit out of line. However some people feel the right to defend their opinion, just as you feel the right to defend yours. Also some complaints have been poorly made and are as useless as "this game the best ever" honestly opinions. Especially at a stage where the game ships is 2 weeks.

Sorry thats a bs answer

It is. I can also say that your opinion is only some bytes of text on screen, and my words will have as much truth as yours.

Roleplaying is about creativity and imagination. Storytelling is about it, starting from the arhchaic and ancient storytelling near the fire about how many mamoths one killed.

And yes, they can never create a game just for my character, but they can strive to do so. And that is a noble goal, to make a large and smart game.

You poor plebian!!

Critical and financial success are heralds of game failure!!!  Mass Defect 2 was clearly a failure!!! I would advise you to throw it in the trash with all haste and purchase a true marvel of modern rpg gaming, Alpha Protocol. Purchase it and drag yourself out of the primordial muck before it's too late!!!
