Short of no DRM at all, this is quite possibly the best DRM evar.

Oh, it still has it's issues. Not great for anyone without internet, or doesn't use internet on their game pc. Anyone who would like to resell the game later is stuffed.

For me personally, those aren't issues though.

Its date locked Osena, it's irrelevent when you get it, you can install it when you like, but can't activate till the due date :)

Also yay for one time verification :)

Chris, what about DLC? If I install the Exiled Prince and other DLC, will I have to be logged in to play? Or will a one-time authentication do it?

Very nice, I always hated the need to stick dvd in drive each time you play ME2.

Just wondering, does the disc version have release control? If the retailer I bought the game from sends it a day or two early will I be able to play it then, or will I have to wait until the official date (the 11th here)?

If I good remember from previous posts on forum, it's mean that if i.e in yours country relase date is i.e 11 March, You will be not able to play DA2 even, If You get this game earlier...

Yeah, I saw that too, I was hoping for clarification as to whether it's still the case.

The internet really isn't an issue. It's a one time check. I'm going to borrow my friends wireless modem for a minute and then give it back.

But yeah, resale is screwed.

Dragon Age 2 Digital DRM (non-Steam versions)

  • Does not use securom.
  • It does not install anything to the PC.
  • Sole purpose is to check with a server to validate whether the game release date has passed or not.
  • It completely removes itself after the game release date has passed.
  • You will not be able to play until that date has passed.
  • Dates & times are set to the retail street date per country.

I hope this implies that digital pre-orders will be able to download the game before the release date. :D

No resale, perhaps, but does that really matter at this point? When have PC games been easy to resell in the last several years? I don't think we'll ever see the used PC game market come back on the scene.

Definitely. I'm English, downloading from an American site (gametreemac) and paying in dollars. If I have to wait until March 11 just because I live in Germany, I am going to be royally sour.

Where do I have to check to see the street date for my country(Brasil)? Or is the same as Europe?

Thanks in advance.

If online, a game ownership check happens each time you play.

Chris, what does the above mean? Does this mean if you're on-line you have to be logged into your account in-game in order to play (i.e. you can't log out of your account and play if you're connected to the internet)?

ditto on this question

other then that i guess I do have to tether my phone once which isn't that big a deal i suppose. might actually buy the game now.

But if the servers get like it was for the demo...we might not be able to play. Immagine inviata

Thank you for the update and the consumer-friendly revisions.  I greatly appreciate it.  I still don't like that you must have an EA account to be able to authenticate the game.  I have one, sure.  Making it was my choice, and I decided it was something I wanted to so.  Still, that's not a significant issue, and I'm willing to live with it.

You did not, however, mention whether or not the registration for the game is transferable.  In fact, I think that's something that never got any official confirmation or debunking during the entire DRM discussion.  Will we be able to sell/give the game to someone else later and not have to worry about them being unable to install without our login?

you can actually remove your CD key here on the social site. it's under my games => register games I think. that should allow you to re sell at will
