I have requested an RMA for my Disk Version, as it has SecureROM DRM on it, and there is NO mention of this in the EULA. Very disapointed as we were told by Chris Priestly http://social.biowar...94280/1#6194280 that there was NO SecureROM. My Copy is going "back to sender". Fail work there Bioware/EA. EA is killing PC gaming faster than ANY pirate. I don't like being lied to.

DA2 doesn't have SecuROM.  It has a release-date checker/iunlocker from the same Sony team that developed SecuROM.  That's why the support link is to the same site.

(Please check the BioWare posts to this thread before going off on a rant.)

[Edit: Adding the text of Fernando's post for those who have trouble using the BioWare-only filter.]

The release control software is also made by Sony DADC, the same team that makes securom.  But it is not the same product - for instance, it does not install anything etc just as we've stated before.  They have the same support site though which is the URL you're seeing.

This game can no go screw itself as far as I'm concerned. SecuROM won't be touching my computer with a ten foot pole.

More specifically, BioWare what this has earned you:

Your customers were flat out lied to.
I will never (NEVER) buy one of your games on day 1 (or preorder) ever again.
All games you release for the PC will be assumed to have some form of draconian DRM until it has been demonstrated by a third party that they do not.

I haven't received my game yet. It should arrive tomorrow. (UK)

I am not looking forward to after reading all this.. I was quite, well Very dissapointed with the initial DRM settings, that the game had to "check in" periodically, but it now looks like that isnt the case anymore... thank god.

I am in full support of everyone here, as i will not be pre ordering games anymore, from ANY developer, until i have read full reviews first. I am quite broke this month and sacraficed a few bits for my DA 2 game, I do hope it was worth it as i am really excited still :-).

I took a chance on buying a PC version of DA2, because DA:O was so bad on the xbox, I now very much regret trusting Bioware/EA. More the fool me.

The irony is that DA2 is much more console friendly then DAO.

Very dissapointed.. I'll wait to see if there is a RYG follow-up analysing the Steam version (are they likely to do that?), to see if there is anything added with that.

Failing that, I'll just wait for a pre-owned console copy. I know they really hate that.

I should have bought the xbox version, but I can't do that now, I feel I would be losing out, because I won't get the "Signature Edition content" for the xbox, so I won't buy it.

I wasn't aware DA was so popular on the console, i just assumed everyone played the pc version? I thought games like DA were "made" for the pc... maybe im just oblivious to it all as a dedicated PC gamer, never really bothered with console games since the PS2.

I still think console DRM is far more restrictive.

A question though, what about those who bought the game and don't have an internet connection? I know, I know this day and age you're supposed to have one but in reality not everybody can afford or even retain one.

The sad part is, after installing the game, the date check thingy fires up and tries to connect to EA and activate validate your copy which was not the case in the earlier Dragon Age Origins.

Even if you are not logged in to your account, you can still play the game, although no DLC Addons are authorized or downloaded.

What the heck is this? Officially indicated that there's no Securom, but it's nevertheless there?

There's considerable gameplay condensation to the game that makes it less interesting; a price spike that the game itself does not justify (wasn't hit by it, fortunately), and now we were lied to?

Too many freaking negative changes. This is FUBAR.

But who says we are supposed to have one really... its not right that developers assume we all do.

From what they have said though, we only need a connection once, to activate.  After that, as long as you backup your log files, you should never need the net again, even when installing on other machines, just copy your log files over... at least that worked for me with DA: O Ultimate edition.

I am displeased by the insolence of those mortals known as "EA" (who came up with that?), they offend my Demonic malice greatly. I need a hug to satisfy my wounded ego.

Just checked it all out while installing on my comp.
Its true...why is the release date checker on my game?
I live in the US.
Also for some odd reason it didnt register that I already registered the game.
Stopped before completing the install and found the files.
*I checked before the release date checker start and found nothing so I figured I had nothing to worry about*
Question is.....how long till the release date checker registers that I already registered...
Nevermind I think I need to register it again on the EA site.

...all right, any ideas, how to get past a sweet "An error occurred during the online release date check. Click RETRY to try again. etc." error message? I am actually tired of retrying (Eastern Europe, CET 1:32, Signature Edition).
Seems like the server(s) checking the release dates can not take the punishment.
