So can I ask a question? Going by the Reclaim Your Game review can I delete that Securom folder and will the game still run if it is deleted?

/Will carry on lurking the forums as I have done since the first Dragon Age/Mass Effect...

It´s the 11th of march and the release date check still does not want me to play my paid product. I checked my Firewall and AVG. What else can I do Bioware to play your game?

I heard The Pirate Bay has some nice offers, works out of the box, no securom, no registration needed. The price is also pretty competitive...

This is the future of gaming:

1) first you buy your legal game, get it, store it somewhere safe :wizard:
2) visit TPB or other online discount store and get a clean version with no malware :bandit:
3) install said version
4) enjoy your game :D

What does it say specifically for you w/ respect to your first activation process via. the Release Date Check?

It repeats "An error occurred during the online release date check. Click RETRY to try again."

AVG deactivated, firewall too.

Looks like something else is blocking access to Sony DADC's servers. (It'd be a different case if the Release Date Check authorised your copy on a date other than 11/03/2011). Someone asked previously on a similar issue. Also, are you using a wireless/dongle or it is connected via. Ethernet?

Do you have Peerblock running? I had to disable Peerblock for the activation to work...

I had some unlocking issues due to an IP conflict.  The game unlocked after I did a restart and all internet related apps were off.

Try closing all programs running on system tray.

Also contact support if you haven't done so.

Don´t think so. Either the game won´t run or the folder will be created again

@Kroitz.

Aside from the advice of Merkar. Disable User Account Control (UAC) . Then try again.

If it works. Please report. It is a typical failure of Securom

How can I disable the UAC? I have very similar problems myself (restarting, shooting down apps requiring connection and disabling the firewall did no justice).

It's your rig... so you can do whatever you  want, but disabling the UAC means that ANYTHNG that can get you to click on it, (and many things that don't even need that much help) can run on your system as if they were "you".

Presuming that you log-on with an Adminstrator account on your own machine, you have just said "Sure!  Come on in.  Do whatever you want!" to a lot of malware you might stumble across on the internet.

No need at all for doing this with DA, or DA2.  If you think there is a user permission problem, then something else is wrong.

WIN 7

Go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> System and Security ->ACTION CENTER

Change User Account Control is one of the options on the left of the action center

Win Vista
Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”:

Done :police:

EDIT: Thandal is right, turn UAC on after playing or activating DA2

We both know that one problem or particular game bug doesn´t show on all rigs, that doesn´t mean it is not there :)

There is a lot of precedence of Securom messing with UAC. Google is your friend ^_^

Quote: In a recent email sent to their subscribers, representatives from RYG wrote:

nowhere on the package, in the EULA or on the Website for the game is

the courts to disclose the use of SecuROM on any game that uses it. And
it is contradictory of what Bioware has been saying for the last 3
weeks.

In their report, RYG cites multiple areas of concern, including:
* Inconsistent information about DRM
* No EULA for SecuROM
* SecuROM files hidden from user
* SecuROM files not removed after online activation
* DRM removal tool not included; SecuROM remains even after user uninstalls game[/list]http://vividgamer.co...-dragon-age-ii/

LOCKDOWN!

In other words, you can discuss this... as long as you keep it to the
old DRM topic where nobody will see it unless they just now decided to
look up what type of DRM DA2 has.

Thanks for posting. I never would have found that on my own. I would like to know what BioWare and EA have to say about this. I mean, really? Lying to your customers about doing something you've been forbidden to do in court? I just... wow.

The DRM is so awesome that even my legally purchased Dragon Age II (downloaded via the EA store) won't launch. It throws an error that release date check cannot be performed. But no problem, because:

- they say they are sorry (in the pop up)
- and pirates can have fun

Thanks a bunch for your fascinating protection. It's so effective that it keeps me from playing a legal copy.

Awesome!!!

I'm hoping but not hopeful that this (report of securRom) is an error in reporting.

Remember Chris said in the first post:

"A PC review mentions Securom, what gives?
  • All EA preview & review game builds sent to press use Securom which is where the assumption came from.  The Dragon Age 2 actual retail & download version of the game that you will play will not use Securom, it uses one of the systems above."
Perhaps they tested a preview/review build and not the consumer build?

Well, here's the error that I get:

"An error occurred during the online release date check. Click RETRY to try again.

If the error persists, please click CANCEL to abort the process and find a solution at the support website: https://support.securom.com/"

Looking again at Christ Priestly's original post:

Chris Priestly wrote...
Dragon Age 2 Release Control (non-Steam versions)

  • Does not use securom.
  • It does not install anything to the PC.
  • Sole purpose is to check with a server to validate whether the game release date has passed or not.
  • It completely removes itself after the game release date has passed.
  • You will not be able to play until that date has passed.
  • Dates & times are set to the retail street date per country.

The two bolded items were never logically consistent ... if it doesn't install anything to the PC, how can there be anything to remove?

That aside, the big issue for me is if it doesn't remove itself. I don't care if the date-validation uses a securom module or not, but I do care if it's not removed (completely and automatically) as promised. That would be a bug, and bugs get fixed with patches. Once that's done, problem solved as far as I'm concerned.

I'm still waiting for my DA 2 PC version to arrive to my country...but what the hell, the game used SecuRom? I won't install it even if I have this disk.

And why this Online date check and validation nonsense if it uses SecuRom at the end?
