Open regedit, search for "Securom", it should find the key in HK_Current_User\\Software, export the whole Securom folder as a text file so you can see the timestamps. There should be a few keys with creation time/date coinciding with the time you installed DA2.

Dragon Age 2 Release Control (non-Steam versions)
- Does not use securom.
- It does not install anything to the PC.
- Sole purpose is to check with a server to validate whether the game release date has passed or not.
- It completely removes itself after the game release date has passed.
- You will not be able to play until that date has passed.
- Dates & times are set to the retail street date per country.
The two bolded items were never logically consistent ... if it doesn't install anything to the PC, how can there be anything to remove?
That aside, the big issue for me is if it doesn't remove itself. I don't care if the date-validation uses a securom module or not, but I do care if it's not removed (completely and automatically) as promised. That would be a bug, and bugs get fixed with patches. Once that's done, problem solved as far as I'm concerned.
There is no part of Securom that is not dangerous. It's quite a nasty little piece of software, only barely not being categorizable as a rootkit.

It also would have been nice if they didn't lie to us.
It would also be nice if they commented themselves, or hurried up with their "taking it seriously" statement.

Patience is a virtue.
The community has been lied to and you expect patience?
My Signature Edition is on a plane right now. When it lands I have to go the extra mile to sell it off. Now that's virtuous

Unfortunately that doesn't answer his question. As I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive, I'm curious myself. After activating the game, can securom be removed without disabling the game?

I removed SecuRom from my system using the official uninstall tool and DA2 runs just fine, though the uninstaller might leave some traces of SecuRom on the System.g-vapen wrote...

A word of warning though if you uninstall ALL authorization for games with SecuRom will be deleted as well.

I really start loosing my faith in two more companies and it is sad that one of them is Bioware, lying to us your paying customers isn't nice and I am not sure if I can take their words for true anymore!

I believe an explanation is also in order. We've all known Bioware for a long time. This isn't something we would expect from them. Which clearly points at EA influence as the culprit especially since they've had this issue multiple times before. I don't expect anyone to throw their new corporate masters under the bus, but Biowares image is on the line and I know I'd be a least a little bit comforted in an "EA made us do it." post.

passionata, if you have DLC content (like, for example, staff of parlathan) it does get affected if one uses the securom removal tool? you can still use it?

I believe it is possible because I activated/authorized the DLC before removing SecuRom.

Thanxs passionata, at least there is a way to remove this malware, but I'm still pissed off that BW lied to us by saying that there is no securom here. I was fine with the one time activation policy, but hell, I can't stand this.
I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive to my country, but this matter bugged me A LOT. I'm expecting an official answer for this.

Below are the details of the final version of DRM that will be used with Dragon Age 2 for PC and Mac.
A PC review mentions Securom, what gives? If you have other questions please feel free to post here – as always, a reminder that this thread is NOT for the general discussion of DRM, the pros and cons of other DRM systems or any talk about circumventing DRM (which is against the rules of conduct and will be disciplined as such). Thanks.
- All EA preview & review game builds sent to press use Securom which is where the assumption came from. The Dragon Age 2 actual retail & download version of the game that you will play will not use Securom, it uses one of the systems above.
Without prejudice....
So, presumeing that you wont delete your own thread, can you explain why exactly my last write to secuRom entry was exactly the same time when steam finished off installing Dragon Age 2?
(which was even before unlocking the game for me to play at midnight)
I have screengrab's as proof if needed, and also screengrabbed this post for if I need to take the matter further as to why we were told that we would not have to worry about having this rubbish on our machine, when in fact we do.
As I will have to take the matter to your head office as to why we were told one thing, yet given another.
I will not require a refund this time, but in future I expect to be told the truth.
I look forward to knowing why we were told that there will be no securom, yet there is.

thanks to amazons great return policy.
sorry EA / bioware, but lying about DRM just isnt fair.
i hope others will also return their copies or not buy this, because this is fraud.
i would not have preordered this software if i knew it had securom on it.
games like the witcher 2 show how its done:
NO DRM at all.
and i am sure people would buy more software if they would not be cheated by the publisher with lies and harrased by DRM.
this behaviour from EA really makes me angry

I am speechless.... They even snuck it onto the Steam version given all the protection steam already has? I play on steam to get away from all this crap about DRM in retail copies. This is just as bad as Ubisoft! At least Ubisoft has the goddamn DECENCY to inform you about their extra DRM in place even in steam. This outright lie by omission for DA2 is just...god, I'm going to step away before I blow my top off.
