If in 5 years from now, Bioware/EA company was going to not exist anymore and their websites were to disapear, would i still be able to install and play my Dragon Age 2 PC/disc version i have paid good money for?
Should'nt there be laws garanteeing that physical discs you bought should always be garanteed to work? Also another nitpick, even in 2011 there are lot of people who do not have internet connection or do not have it available all the time. What's with the new trend about always requesting internet access before being able to play a videogame? That seem just wrong to me.
I think old disc-check system was alot more honest and respectful of consumers. Serously, i can still install and play my old ADnD game Pool Of Radiance which i like bought in the mid 80s. I still have the paper password wheel lol.
I dunno why game companies are behaving like such rats nowadays. I know there are pirates playing their games without buying copies but they punishing lot of honest consumers like me who spent tousand of dollars in computer games during the last 20 years. I know i am gettin old and all this activation crap is becoming more and more complicated everytime i buy a new game. I am not happy about this.

1. Online activation will be removed by a patch (very unlikely).
2. Play a cracked version (already available).
3. Download free of DRM from gog.com (possible but unlikely).

1. You can't sell or give away your copy.
2. You can be hooked with a short game and then pay a lot more for DLC fill in.
3. It can always get worse, like limited installs or always online to play.
4. In game advertising.
5. Publishers can stop supporting a game or bann an account at their sole discretion (like for calling them "rats"
6. So far is free but a subscription might be required in the future.
7. Imagine 1-6 when you have "tousand of dollars in computer games" bound to online activation.
The is or isn't securom discussion is rather futile. The main point here is the

Did anyone in the company consider that there are customers who would buy the product who live in rural areas where they have no internet access? My daughter has the DVD, but cannot play because she hasn't a connection. However insignificant the company considers her, she is important to herself and to me.Chris Priestly wrote...

- After each new install there is a 1-time online check needed the next time you play, requiring a log in to your EA account to verify game ownership. If you are a member of these forums, you already have an EA account – just use the same email/password.
- You can play offline thereafter - the game will NOT require any subsequent login checks. If online, a game ownership check happens each time you play.

There are thousands of my brothers and sisters in arms in similar situations all around the world. I can wait till we hit a port and use one of their internet connections, but with this crisis going on in Japan, there's not telling when that will be. I've already waited a 2 weeks for the game to arrive in the mail, and now I have to wait who knows how long to be able to activate the game.
I'm quite upset about this and I feel that in the end people who pirate games always come out on top because it's never the pirates who get mistreated. It's the consumers who actually buy the games that suffer the wrath..pirates will always continue to circumvent the protections, no matter what they are. I've been a huge fan of Bioware for years...and it's things like that that lead me to question their integrity as a compay when it comes to their consumers and fans.

EA doesn't really care, as long as the sales are up and the money keep flowing, everyting is fine for them. I'm sure they did some research before, how many lost sales because of online activation vs how much extra sales from killing the second hand market. Or how much they expect to cash in from selling a large part of the game as DLC.
As long as most people don't consider and/or don't care about all the implications of online activation there is no reason for EA to stop doing it.
But the fact is that EA needs our money more than we need to play their games. Keep that in mind.

They should have activation by text message or phone or something for people without internet connection. Gotta include all the customers...not just the majority.

I'm glad we don't have to download any shady no-cd's to play without the CD, but I don't particularly like having to log in even once. Not that it matters on any large scale, just a personal preference.
Lucky! I have to download a shady no-drm crack to play my game because the DRM doesn't work on my PC and BioWare still hasn't patched it. That's worse than a no-CD requirement, I think.

Or they could just stop it with this nonsense DRM. The pirates had the game cracked before it was even released. So what's the point of the DRM, then?

Had me worried for a while.
Not just that I don't like it, but i _can't_ do it for the next few weeks.

From what I understand of the DRM rules for DAII, if I purchase a single copy of the game, install it on both my and my wife's PCs, we will able to activate it on both, as long as we use the same EA/Bioware account each time?
Once activated, we can both play it as much as we want, even if logged on the whole time, and even if simultaniously, since it's less than the 5 PCs/24 hours maximum, right?
Will we be able to download and/or install all the DLCs the activation account is eligible for on both PCs?

I'm the ONLY user on my PC, I'm an Admin Level Authorized User and my PC has a dedicated DSL connection to the Interment 24 / 7 x 365. So, why do I keep getting this error prompt??

I don't know if this is the right thread or not, but here goes: Why do I get this message if I don't access the game over 8 hours. and the ONLY way to fix it is to "ReBoot" my PC, then restart the game and reenter my login and password:

Because there's a bug in the EA DRM software that they still haven't fixed. I have the same error, as do thousands of others. It's very frustrating and the EA support team has been entirely useless in resolving it. I would suggest using Google to find an unofficial solution, but I can't provide any more detail here.

WanderingIdler: Give it a break. Your repeated rehashing of a non-existant problem is getting tedious. I agree with Bioware's explanation. My DA2 runs great. I don't have to be online to play, a disk in the drive is not necessary, and there is no trace of SecuRom on my system. Are you an employee of RYG? (No need to answer... it might encourage another dozen posts from you.)
No, he´s not but I AM.
You must live in another world if there´s no trace of Securom on your system, if DA2 is still installed.
Or you may have an internal copy of the developers which is unwrapped and has none of the DRM´s/Relase Check.
You try the way of denying the evidence of the existant problems hoping the people agree. This may have caused good results some time before, when people had less knowledge of Securom. But this just doesn´t happen any longer.
And the longer Securom continues its invasive ways the harder you´ll have to defend and to confuse people with your blatant lies.
We are in the news for a reason, as much as you hate it.
Take a good day!

You need Interent to bypass the crazy release date checker AND to link your copy of the game to an EA account. This are some of the "joys" of online activation. This is why I don't buy such games, although I have an Internet connection.
I registered my EA games (DAO, DAO-A, ME2) just to prove that I'm not an "angry pirate" or a "petulant child". As you can see, DA2 is missing.

If you install patch 1.01 (download it to a USB drive and copy it over), it will remove the release date checker entirely. No need to bypass it!
That said, you'll still need an Internet connection to authenticate your account the first time you play. Obviously, we can't tell you how to bypass it on BioWare's social site. Google knows how to do it, though.

He, he it looks stupid but it's not. In fact it's business strategy.
If you don't mind online activation now, you are one little step closer to "Insert quarters for time extensions" future.
