I don't want to resell da2, but i want the option. Hell I still have BG, BG TotSC, BG2, BG2 ToB, KotoR, ME, ME2, DA:O and DA:A. It's just that guys like me and probably 90% of the people here in the forum made bioware to the company it is today and now we get treated like third class customers.
Back in the days I loved Bioware, but now I just regard them as high as EA, which is just a step above Ubisoft.

I'd say you should go for it, definitely worth it.

What happens if one of these 'background' checks fails for whatever reason? Or if the internet goes out while we are playing?
Worst case scenario is that you lose any in-game progress not saved and will have to reload: As long as you have made the initial one time check (PC) you should be free to play off line. You can prevent the repeat checks from occurring by disabling your network connections

To think that internet connection of any kind to play or install a single player game is ok ,especially constant online check is insane in my eyes.
Steam is terribad. Anyone who supports Steam/Steamworks is contributing to ruining PC gaming.
Not sure if i misinterpret... Still, please explain to me why Bioware/EA drm is godlike even their doing exactly the same crap with DA2 like steam drms with its one time binding of serial keys?

Is that how DA:O worked? I may opt to just turn off my internet while playing DA2 if that's how it works.

I don't know how it worked in DA: O. I have never had any problems with DRM so it's largely something that passes me by unnoticed (which is good and bad). It does look as though the only method that meets our attitude to DRM is to disable the network connections. There is a better implementation of this 'general attitude' to be had. And I'm sure we as consumers will settle on something that is reasonable. It's nearly there IMO.

Dragon Age 2 Release Control (non-Steam versions)
- Does not use securom.
- It does not install anything to the PC.
- Sole purpose is to check with a server to validate whether the game release date has passed or not.
- It completely removes itself after the game release date has passed.
- You will not be able to play until that date has passed.
- Dates & times are set to the retail street date per country.
So, even if a store here ships it early on the 10th, we'd get locked out of playing for an entire day while people in america are already able to play?
That's not fair. Why not set the same unlock date for all countries?

Because then Brick & Mortar retailers in Europe wouldn't carry the game.Nighteye2 wrote...

The major difference is that you're not wed to Steam's other "features".Soul Juggalo wrote...

Yes, the DRM works the same, but it doesn't carry the other extra baggage. This DA2 DRM is barely invasive at all.

Will we be able to integrate our physical copies into Steam? By this I mean registering with CD keys with our Steam accounts.
If it works like DA:O, you'll be able to register it to the EADM but not Steam.

If that's the reason, why not set the 11th as the worldwide unlock date?

I don't like this "we'll check if you're online and phone home" thing. I'd like to be able to tell the game when it can phone home.Fernando Melo wrote...
Similar to Steam however, if you have an active internet connection then when the game starts up it'll do a check in the background. The difference is that you can be offline/no internet after the first time and it'll simply default to let you play (essentially an auto-offline mode, no request needed from your part).
I deal with Steam DRM only because I get great deals on games. I don't think I've spent over $10 for a game on Steam so the trade off is ok with me. If I'm buying a retail game, I'm not a fan of it phoning home unless it has my explicit permission.
