So what's the real math behind Lockpicking and Cunning?

I have the raven respec mod. I respeced Leliana and did NOT give her any points toward lockpicking, but she had high Cunning. Low and behold she was opening locks with ZERO points given to that skill. A respec bug or is that actually possible?

Question 1: Is there a known ratio between Cunning points and Lockpick levels? Example, "Each level of lockpicking = X amount of Cunning."

Question 2: If so, with a Cunning build rogue how many points do you really need in Lockpicking, for both Origins and Awakening?

Total skill = cunning - 10 + (lockpicking level) * 10

The hardest locks require a skill of 60. With a cunning build you'll end up needing ZERO points in lockpicking.

Long version is in the link above.

Less clear. If you look at the mechanics thread above, it seems that disarming a trap works like this, but detection is a different story (it claims you gain detection radius from the Device Mastery line).

This actually fits my experience. My cunning rogues haven't had trouble disarming traps, but I don't always seem to find them early enough.

Fits mine, too. Early in game I've actually detected traps I couldn't disarm. And there seems to be trap bugs. Usually when I fight Jarvia there are traps that I know are there, and with high CUN and level 4 some of them still aren't being detected - no matter how much I move around. And then later out of the blue one or two are randomly 'detected'

Also there are traps I detect but there's no place I can move my mouse to que the disarm feature. Off the top of my head one in Return to Ostagar, one when the assassins try to kill Leliana and one during Anvil of the Void.

I definitely remember the problem in the Jarvia fight. There's tripwire all over the place, but even when standing still right next to it for a long time, I don't always detect it. It's very strange.

I believe it may be a positioning proble, In Jarvia's place, the tripwires on each side of her 'bunker' and the ones behind her cannot seem to be detected unless you are already back by the chests. Still, being able to disarm that first one in front of her makes that entire battle so much easier, IMO.

if you stand near the entrance, it is possible to detect the triplines at the top of the stairs, I did it once, ONE TIME, I have yet to duplicate. I usually end up having to cast Heroic Defense and trigger one to detect the rest.

The magic number for locks is 70.

It's my belief that you need at least 1 level in Deft Hands to detect traps. I've run through the initial portion of the game with equipment that gives +8 Cunning (Cinch of Skillful Maneuvering, High Regard of House Dace, and Lucky Stone), and Daveth still can't detect the line of traps at the end of that bridge where the Hurlock Emissary parks. I've no proof of this, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Perhaps they're needed to detect traps, but not open locks.
