When I saw the ME3 info about adding ammo effect to CS I thought about this thread. It really shows that they realized that they had to do something to improve it for anyone to use it much. In ME2 it has a cool animation, but maybe useful only to kill unprotected husks.

Concussive Shot is a decent power. That's not the problem. The problem is that Adrenaline Rush is a bit overpowered, and thus it makes more sense to use your cooldowns on AR instead of CS in most cases.

Keep in mind it's a soldier's power. Soldiers aren't supposed to be about powers anyway. They're about dealing damage with firearms, and most of their powers are passive affairs (class passive and ammo powers) that make your firearms more effective.

I've used it extensively, however, just for the entertainment value. I will tend to evolve it and use it a lot on a Revenant soldier, as Adrenaline Rush doesn't turn the Revenant into magical killing machine the way it does the Widow and Mattock. I'll tend to use AR very little while going Rambo mode with the Revenant, leaving my cooldowns open for CS shenanigans. If I go to the sniper rifle or shotgun, I go back to using AR. The heavy CS is kind of nice to have since you don't have any anti-barrier ammo powers. Revenant + Heavy CS is a pretty potent combo for killing Collectors.

Frankly I was a little disappointed they didn't go all out and bring back Carnage. Still, given the more 'realistic' direction they're taking ME3 in, it'll probably be fine. Hope the new CS doesn't conflict with the new Grenades though.

I thought I had read in the 'confirmed features' thread in the ME3 forums that Carnage (in some form or fashion) was making a return. Maybe not exactly like the original, but similar.

^I think CS might just be that "some form or fashion". I used CS when I first started ME2 thinking it was Carnage, but I quickly realized it wasn't.. :(

The problem (or good thing, depending on your perspective) about Carnage was that its damage was based on Shotgun damage. So even Basic Carnage (+50% weapon damage) would increase in damage as you equipped a stronger shotgun. With the changed mechanics of ME2--and ME3-- bringing back Carnage (and any weapon-based power) was a non-starter.

However, Concussive Shot in ME2 is generally too weak and the cooldown too long to see much use, even on the Normal difficulty. And the stupid weapon damage increase of Adrenaline Rush pretty much insures that Concussive Shot is relegated to few builds.

From what I have seen (check out [link]http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6318253/mass-effect-3-mordin-meet-up-gameplay-movie?tag=videos;img;9[/link], pause around 3:27) you can upgrade the damage, force, and cooldown separately, and base damage will be greater than 100 in ME3. In the video, Shepard's Concussive Shot is 153.00 damage at about 1/3 of the damage bar.

Also in the video, it appears that Grenades are separate from powers, as Shepard throws one while in power cooldown after using Concussive Shot. From what I can tell from the screenshots and gameplay videos, each class may have a unique equipment (such as grenades) besides a unique power; but we will not know more until it gets closer to release.

^True. However, Carnage's (and CS's) effects have always been roughly analogous to that of a grenade launcher. Grenades were also always universal back in ME1. We've only seen Soldier demos so far, but just going on those, I'm curious as to how BW will take these similar powers and not have them seem conflicted in-game - which they could, if they are made too similar in effect.

I really believe that BW , is going all out with this one , they actually read these threads and listen to the fans , how many other game developers do that , so I think we will see an improvement in CS as well as other areas of the franchise, ME2 tested the waters on a lot of things that fans ask for , so areas where improvement was needed worked well and some they just went to far , and ME3 will be that combination of ME1 and ME2 , I just hope and it seems that way , I'm just glad that the soldier class is being fleshed out and worked to balance out combat better, with omni blade , grenades, more tiers for powers , mods for weapons its going to be a reaper fest spring 2012 . . . Lol
