This really is a hardware problem you have, and BioWare isn't going to be able to help you. You said you had been looking at AlienWare, they are nice, but they are also very expensive and you can get top notch hardware without having to pay that much. I don't know if you are familiar with building computers, but I doubt that it was so from readin this thread.
Easiest way, I'd say, would be to buy a Dell that comes with Windows 7 already, and has the right CPU but lacking a graphics card, because you can buy a graphics card yourself a lot cheaper than Dell will sell it to you.
Oh my lord...

I'd prefer someone from Bioware but I doubt I'll get a response. I just reinstalled the game and clicked the option that said to keep all saves. Reloaded my game and guess what! It's still broken. Is something corrupting my saves or am I going to have to scrounge up 1700 dollars for a decent computer.
There seems to be some evidence that saves can also be broken by toolset issues and possibly by DLC issues... You'll almost certainly be happier with a new computer (even though buying it may hurt a bit initially)

*sigh* From what I've heard, it seems I've had a major stroke of luck with this computer. Never had any troubles before this game. AOTS and a few other tech-ish shows I watch give a few guides, and I have a pretty good idea about what I'm looking for.
Thanks for all your help, everyone

Haven't bothered to read this whole thread, buuut..
I had this same problem. Uninstalled, reinstalled, went to My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Modules and deleted the single player file.
Fixed it.

Wwowowowowowow. I'm hoping someone slipped something into my chili, but are you suggesting I delete my single-player game? I'd rather walk around Denerim by using the minimap than do that. No thanks, bub.
