Did you pick up the health potions in the chest right before that?

Kill the darkspawn and then the orge,
Divide and Conquer.

Activate the defense mode with Aveline, let her take the aggro via taunt, kill off the adds by focusing them down with your hero and Beth. Use health potions and the pause button.

Make sure you have levelled up the whole team. That was what got me.

1) Make sure you have done your level ups.
2) use skills to get behind the ogre (like backstab) or stun the ogre (like pummel strike.)

had this same problem, died three times
make sure you get all the potions, give everyone orders since Fireball is very useful, my Hawke died and i had to settle for Aveline for the end of the battle. And make sure you level everyone up o'course
tried running away so far my character went out of battle mode and my companions respawned to start fighting again, then it crashed

Kill it here at 12:00. Perhaps that helps. I make some mistakes (First time I did it) but other than that it went pretty easy.
Not sure what you could be doing wrong honestly. You picked up the potions? You're pausing every now and then? Taunting with Aveline? Tried with Bethany as a healer? (Helps a lot)

It is a harder fight. You will need to pause and issue command and think about positioning a bit. For me I was down to one character in the end when I won.
Try to have aveline attacking the Ogre and keeping him attacking her (using taunt when needed). The other party members need to focus in the darkspawn first to reduce the damage per second sustained. Make sure bethany or you if you have a mage uses Fireball at the right time. Save it until the darkspawn are grouped together. Make sure to find (i.e loot everything) all potions available and make sure that you have your heros use them
Combine that and it should be doable

First of all, pour all of Aveline's skill points into Constitution so she can tank properly. Secondly, make sure Bethany has a couple good spells and is kept out of the way of the Darkspawn during the ensuing fight. Have Aveline spam Taunt and then send Bethany and Hawke in to clear up the Darkspawn that swarm her.
If you find it impossible to beat said Ogre, make sure Bethany is still alive before the end and start running around the battlefield with her. Once you get away from the Darkspawn and Ogre, throw a Fireball at them and a couple of attacks - then move once they get too close. Rinse, repeat, until all enemies are now nice and toasty.Might take awhile, but it's a viable option when you can't get past that particular fight. (Note, running close to the Ogre will get it to stop and launch an attack, use this to your advantage.)

Are you switching between your team members and tactically fighting? If you're just running around with Hawke and attacking the ogre might want to rethink strategy. Keep the manchick on the ogre and have Hawke and Bethany/Carver on hurlocks. Keep your mage character relatively away from the ogre by the entry ways of the hurlocks and auto attack ogre inbetween waves of hurlocks. Keep Melee dps on hurlocks as well and in between waves go behind the ogre and attack it until the next wave comes. Hurlocks are priority and should be cleared with both dps before returning focus on ogre. Eventually they stop coming and if the ogre isn't already dead you can switch both dps and just burst him down. Save potions for the manchick.

Yes, take down the darkspawn quickly while Aveline soaks up damage from the Ogre. I also found that having Heroic Aura active helped Carver and Aveline (I was a mage but you could always give it to Bethany if you want to) withstand damage. I recommend focusing your entire party's attacks on one target at a time so it doesn't take forever. I also recommend giving Carver Stonewall to help bolster his defense since it's so low without a shield. He goes down quick in many cases (again, that's why Heroic Aura helps). And make sure to pick up all of the health potions because you'll need them, even if you take Heal (it has a long cooldown and isn't that effective).

At this point you should have:
Aveline (tank)
Mage (either main or Bethany)
Warrior/Rogue (either main or Carver)
Have Aveline tank the ogre. Use your mage's fireball for hitting the hurlock crowds, while having your other character finish off the darkspawn when necessary. When the hurlocks are cleared, or if they are not too much of a hastle, attack the ogre with all characters. Controlling all your characters is helpful, as is giving your mage a heal spell so that you don't have to rely totally on potions for your tank.

My mistake the first time (same mistake I did with the first Ogre in DA:O) was that I focused too much on the Ogre. The dark "swarm" is the bigger threat as they together makes quite a bit of more damage.
As a Mage I was left standing with the ogre at almost full health (and my char at <50%) but I could run in circles around the Ogre (he couldn't reach me 80% of the time) and use what spells and staff I had from a distance. It wasn't pretty but it worked. So when alone the Ogre isn't that hard (from a distance) it's really the darkspawn horde that does you in.

Tactics help. I played as a warrior and a mage for the demo. Haven't started a rogue. It is possible to do this without a healer. Sophitia was my tank as a warrior I just stunned when I could killed the darkspawn on Bethany and went back to the ogre. Much easier than my mage. I am still a firm believer that if you circle and pick off a boss you'll win. I did that with my mage solo once everyone else was down. Ran around in a circle, Winter's grasp the ogre fire aoe the darkspawn. Even though its a demo you still have to figure out whose doing what. If you're a warrior are you tanking or is someone else?

PROTIP : to kill the ogre, hit it until it dies.
real protip : don't let Aveline die.

I find it funny that people can have problems with the demo. There are not many skills for you to use and you have health potions.

Oh, and the stun from the warrior (pummel or what it is called) works on the ogre, too. So be sure to use it as often as possible. Or if you play a rogue, don't forget to use the stun flask as much as possible against the huge Darkspawn groups, to take them out of the fight for as long as possible.

Sorry but this comes across as pompus. I assume you where born with gaming skill and you never had an issue with any game you played?
I am not so lucky (I struggle with most games) While I find the demo easy it's because I learned how DA works. I found DA hard (in a good way) the first time I played it and I was thankful when people gave advice
