can't beat the ogre

Hawke, & the other party member should just mop up the darkspawn, & make sure they don't gang up on Aveline.
Whoever your mage is should probably learn heal, or force field to either heal, or shield Aveline.
And if Hawke's a rogue, I'd recommend an archer, they're pretty powerful.
And use your potions intelligently, that massive cooldown can really mess you u.
Feel free to ignore all the people telling you that you suck at video games as well.
I beat the ogre easily as a rogue or mage, but it absolutely wiped the floor with my warrior.
Everybody has trouble sometimes.

First of all, pour all of Aveline's skill points into Constitution so she can tank properly.
You can do this fight without giving her any con. (Though a bit is good) You need to give her Str for Fortitude and Cun for Defense.

How the heck do access the heal pots? I get them from the dead mobs, but cannot access my inventory. So, I just do without.
On the very lower right of your screen, there are 2 symbols, a red heart and a blue circle. The red heart is for the heal pot.

When done, Run back.
The Oger is so slow he will never catch up.

I doubt the 3 points even makes that much of a difference, but I gave her Con for all her levels and she never needed a heal or a healing potion. Picking from the Guardian skill tree is likely more important than stat allocation.Maconbar wrote...

Nuh-uh. Put AT LEAST HALF her points in CUNNING. She takes WAY less damage if her defense is decent. Have Hawke + Carver (or Hawke + Bethany) do nothing but clean up the adds until they're all dead. About this time Aveline will probably need to drink a potion. Then maul the ogre with your whole party.
Don't have Aveline use taunt unless the ogre starts charging one of your other characters, as you do NOT want the adds attacking aveline. Kite them with Hawke or Bethany if you have to, but it's the adds that will kill Aveline and then the ogre will kill the rest of your group.
Have done this on all 3 classes and had no problems--only had to use a single potion and I probably could have skipped even that.

Nah... much better to focus only on the Ogre with all party members (using CTRL + A if you have a PC). When the Ogre dies the fight ends no matter how many enemies are around.
If you focus on the critters you will only lose time since they don't come all togheter.
To the OP: be sure to use Taunt on Aveline so that she gather aggro from the darkspawn. Remember to watch the health bars of companions and to use health potions if necessary. If you are a mage Winter Grasp helps (or you can use Isabela for it). If you are a Rogue Misamik flask, and so on. Basically every ability that can stop the Ogre a bit. But mainly the most important thing is that you focus all members of the party on the Ogre.

Hey there, I have tried several times to beat the ogre, and just can't, the three party members all die quite quickly then I am ganged up on by a bunch of darkspawn and the orge, I have played as a warrior and roque, anyone have any tips for me on this?
Wow, you suck pretty hard.
Aveline can take the ogre solo. Use her buff mode... shield defense or whatever. You and Bethany/Carver take care of the darkspawn adds and contribute to the ogre fight during the lapses between hurlock attacks.

Now watch the ogres special attacks.
It crouches when its ready to charge : move to the side.
Raises both hands in the air : Move away from it as hes going to smash the ground and do damage in an area around him.
I believe thats the way its meant to be done (especially on higher difficulty) and it barely requires any healing, although you can just tank and spank it but then you would require potions and/or the heal spell.

I find it funny that people can have problems with the demo. There are not many skills for you to use and you have health potions.
Sorry but this comes across as pompus. I assume you where born with gaming skill and you never had an issue with any game you played?
I am not so lucky (I struggle with most games) While I find the demo easy it's because I learned how DA works. I found DA hard (in a good way) the first time I played it and I was thankful when people gave advice
Not really, he's pretty spot on the demo is really easy. Some people are just trash at video games.
You must be showered with love by your peers for your elitist attitude and bluntness

But people can get better, and one of the things this forum exists for is players to help each other.
Though you wouldn't know it from the way we've all been behaving since, oh, August
To be fair, what has been there to help with? Complain/defend Bioware? Seen plenty of that. Wait till the game comes out. The same people--or same sort--will be posting guides and helping people out then.

same deal with rouge and war, i found them a little bit more ticky. same deal with tank, if your a rouge, the best move i found... when the rouge start charging, when if close to you hit backstab... man i love that move. use stun on dark spawn and nuke orge, with war 2hd use your stun on orge lol.
stats wise i just went full str on war, full magic on mages, full dex on rouge lol... seem to work no problem. just make use to pick up the health pots

I've been playing around with this, and now I disagree with Cunning over Constitution. It seems that your HP doesn't grow at level up and you need at least 1 point in your primary attribute (in this case Strength) to keep your attack % reasonable & equip weapons & armour (thought the inventory is locked).
Building constitution allows you to take more damage from mooks, but you actually tank much better from bosses. Someone illustrated this using some very basic math in the attribute thread.

if it's any consoltation one of my friends can't beat the ogre, didn't know there was a pause button, and has a bug that no one ever drinks the potions when she tells them to
